Description

There are approximately 18 deaths by suicide across England and Wales every day, so this is something we all must know more about. This course will educate you with the facts in relation to suicide and raise awareness of this important subject.

You will also explore the five elements of a suicidal mind, as well as exploring risk factors and how you can support someone who is suffering. You will increase your awareness of supporting someone with suicide by looking at how they might feel, the right things to say and the impacts this has on the person, friends, family and colleagues.

By the end of this course, you’ll know more about suicide and its causes, as well as being able to identify signs and symptoms. You will be able to support or signpost the sufferer or their friends and family to the help available.

In order to complete the course, you must achieve 80% or more in the final multiple choice quiz.

You will earn 3 CPD points on completion of the course, this course will take around 3 hours to complete and the certificate will last for two years.

  • Unit 1 – Introduction to Suicide Awareness – In the first unit you will be introduced to suicide and discuss key facts and statistics surrounding this important subject, you will explore what exactly suicide is and what the signs and symptoms are when people feel suicidal. You will also explore some myths. You will then finish this unit off by considering why suicide awareness training is both important and beneficial.
  • Unit 2 – Risk Factors – In this unit you will explore the risks factors of suicide, including the mind and why a person may think about suicide. You will review mental health and triggers of this, while considering the risk factors involved. You will also look at how the risks of suicide can be reduced.
  • Unit 3 – Supporting people who feel suicidal – In this unit you will learn about all the things you should know about if you are supporting someone who has suicidal thoughts and review how we can get better at talking about suicide. You will also consider the LLL model to help you structure how to assess, review and respond best to those who are experiencing suicidal thoughts and feelings.
  • Unit 4 – The impacts of suicide on others – In the final unit of the suicide awareness course, you will explore the impacts of suicide on the person who is suffering and how to support the mental wellbeing of the person who feels suicidal and their family members. The unit will finish by considering how to handle difficult conversations in the most useful and compassionate way.
