Overview

SENCO Awareness Level 3 is designed for learners who want to develop a clear and structured understanding of special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and the role of the Special Educational Needs Coordinator within educational settings. The course focuses on awareness, principles, and collaborative practice, rather than statutory responsibility or operational authority.

Learners explore the purpose of the SENCO role, legal and ethical considerations, and how SEND is identified and supported within inclusive education frameworks. The course introduces assessment approaches, individual education plans, personalised support strategies, and inclusive teaching principles that promote equality and participation for learners with additional needs.

Strong emphasis is placed on collaborative working with teachers, parents, carers, and external professionals, as well as supporting emotional wellbeing and managing challenging behaviour in a respectful and ethical manner. Learners also gain insight into leadership awareness, advocacy, and compliance within SEND contexts.

This course does not qualify learners to act as a statutory SENCO. Instead, it supports professional awareness, confidence, and informed participation in SEND-related roles across education and support environments.
