Description

Self-harm is a complex subject and although we have made progress in understanding this, we still have a long way to go. While evidence suggests that around a quarter of young people aged 14 have self-harmed, the figure is actually believed to be much higher as self-harming is difficult to record accurately, and therefore a true representation of the scale is unknown. Self-harm affects both males and females, and impacts adults as well as children.

This course will provide you with more awareness in relation to self-harm, as we’ll explore what self-harm is and its causes. We’ll also explore myths, who is at risk of self-harming and the types of self-harm, as well as looking at how a person who self-harms can be helped, supported and treated.

Self-harm doesn’t simply affect the person, it impacts their family and friends too, so this is something else this course will review. One of the key issues with self-harm, is that we don’t know what to do, so we’ll explore how we can support a person in detail, by looking at ways we can respond, help them manage feelings and embrace techniques to help them overcome this.

In order to complete the course, you must achieve 80% or more in the final multiple choice quiz.

You will earn 3 CPD points on completion of the course, this course will take around 3 hours to complete and the certificate will last for two years.
