Overview

The role of a secondary teaching assistant is to support pupils aged 11 to 16+ during a significant period of their academic, social, and emotional growth. At this stage, young people often require guidance that extends beyond basic classroom support. Secondary teaching assistants play a key role in helping students grasp subject content, stay engaged in learning, and manage their personal and behavioural challenges. They support teachers with lesson preparation, classroom management, one-to-one or small group interventions, and safeguarding duties.

This course equips learners with a clear grasp of how to assist in core subject learning, understand adolescent development, and respond effectively to the varying needs of pupils in secondary school settings.

Courses such as Child and Adolescent Counselling, SEN Teaching Assistant, Speech & Language Therapy, and Child Psychology Diploma prepare learners to handle behavioural and emotional challenges with care and confidence. The Designated Safeguarding Lead, Child Protection, and Child Neglect Awareness courses help learners recognise risks and know when and how to report concerns, ensuring that child safety is always prioritised.
