The Sculpting Fundamentals for Beginners course consists of eight structured lectures followed by a final assessment, designed to develop sculpting skills progressively from introductory concepts to finished artwork presentation.
The course begins with an introduction to sculpting, covering the history, significance, types of sculpting, and essential terminology. Learners gain a clear understanding of sculpting as an artistic practice.
Sculpting materials and tools introduce commonly used materials such as clay, wood, and stone, alongside essential tools and safety considerations. Guidance on sourcing materials in the UK is also included.
Getting started with clay focuses on different types of sculpting clay, preparation and storage, and basic clay techniques. Learners complete a guided exercise to create a simple clay sculpture.
Exploring 3D forms introduces basic geometric shapes, proportions, and symmetry. Learners practise sculpting simple three-dimensional forms to build spatial awareness.
Anatomy basics provide an introductory overview of human and animal anatomy. Learners explore reference study and practise sculpting simplified body parts and forms.
Adding detail and texture develops techniques for refining surfaces, creating textures, and sculpting organic forms. Learners apply these skills through hands-on exercises.
Finishing and refining your sculpture focuses on smoothing, drying, curing, and finishing options such as painting. Learners complete a final refinement exercise.
Presenting your artwork introduces display methods, photographing sculptures, portfolio development, and opportunities for further study and sculpting in the UK.
Assessment allows learners to demonstrate understanding of sculpting concepts, materials, techniques, and creative development covered throughout the course.
