Every organisation must appoint a designated person to lead on this responsibility and support staff who encounter safeguarding issues in the course of their work. The role of designated person can be challenging and unfamiliar to many, but is vital in protecting the organisation, its staff and the people you work with.

How it works

The key topics for this course have been broken down into lessons, each lesson dealing with a specific area of the overall subject. Each one has clearly set learning outcomes and assessment criteria.

You can progress through the course at your own pace. If you need to leave the course, it will remember where you left off, so when you return there is no need to repeat steps. We often include external links, videos, webpages, downloads, which provide excellent resource files.

At the end of each lesson is a knowledge checkpoint, you will need to achieve more than 75% to pass the lesson, which then unlocks the following lesson. Upon completion of the final lesson your CPD certificate will be unlocked. You can save this as a PDF to your computer or simply print it off.

Richard asked:

Hi, will this course provide certification for me to become the DSL / Officer in my organisation to cover both vulnerable adults and children.

Answer:

Hi there Many thanks for your information request. To become a DSL you would need to first complete your Safeguarding Children and Safeguarding Adults courses. Once you have competed them, the Designated Person course will give you all the knowledge required to carry out the role of a DSL. Many thanks

Caroline witherall asked:

Is this training recognised by ofsted

Answer:

Hi there The courses are CPD certified. I can't say whether Ofsted recognise CPD certified courses but it is a nationally recognised accreditation so I would think that they would recognise it. Just double check with them to be on the safe side. Anything lese, please let me know Warm Regards Sarah

FAQs

Study method describes the format in which the course will be delivered. At Reed Courses, courses are delivered in a number of ways, including online courses, where the course content can be accessed online remotely, and classroom courses, where courses are delivered in person at a classroom venue.

CPD stands for Continuing Professional Development. If you work in certain professions or for certain companies, your employer may require you to complete a number of CPD hours or points, per year. You can find a range of CPD courses on Reed Courses, many of which can be completed online.

A regulated qualification is delivered by a learning institution which is regulated by a government body. In England, the government body which regulates courses is Ofqual. Ofqual regulated qualifications sit on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF), which can help students understand how different qualifications in different fields compare to each other. The framework also helps students to understand what qualifications they need to progress towards a higher learning goal, such as a university degree or equivalent higher education award.

An endorsed course is a skills based course which has been checked over and approved by an independent awarding body. Endorsed courses are not regulated so do not result in a qualification - however, the student can usually purchase a certificate showing the awarding body's logo if they wish. Certain awarding bodies - such as Quality Licence Scheme and TQUK - have developed endorsement schemes as a way to help students select the best skills based courses for them.
