Setting up and following good safeguarding policies and procedures means children are safe from adults and other children who might pose a risk. This includes voluntary and community organisations, faith groups, private sector providers, as well as schools, hospitals and sports clubs.

This online Safeguarding Children training course aims to:

  • Equip health and social care workers with comprehensive knowledge and skills essential for safeguarding children.
  • Help caregivers understand the legislation and regulations that safeguard children against abuse.
  • Discuss possible signs of child maltreatment that you might come across in your work.
  • Assist caregivers to appreciate the importance of communication in the fight against child molestation.
  • Know the potential perpetrators of child abuse and how they can be apprehended.
  • Assist the victim to cope with the impact of child abuse.

Learning outcomes

On completion of this Safeguarding Children eLearning course, the learner will be able to:

  • Describe the different forms and signs of child maltreatment that you might come across in your work.
  • Describe common child maltreatment and its impact on a child or young person.
  • Indicate what to do if you have concerns about child maltreatment, who to contact and where to obtain further advice and support.
  • Identify the importance of sharing information and the consequences of failing to do so.
  • Describe the risks associated with the internet and online social networking.
  • Identify what the term 'looked-after child' means.
  • Identify how to seek appropriate advice, report concerns and feel confident that you have been listened to.
  • Indicate a willingness to listen to children and young people and to act on their issues and concerns.
  • Show an awareness of the impact of female genital mutilation (FGM), domestic violence and a carer's mental/physical health on a child.
  • Demonstrate an awareness that vulnerable children and young people may be susceptible to radicalisation (PREVENT programme).
