Description
The Romance Writing Diploma Course begins by introducing the romance novel and its broad and interesting roots. We’ll define the genre – the characteristics that make a romantic story what it is – and look at what it is not. We’ll look at subgenres too, and help you find your own area of romance.
Romance readers, perhaps more than any other group, know what they like. The Romance Writing Diploma Course introduces common tropes popular within the genre and shows you how to use them to define your story and find an audience. Romantic fiction ranges from sweet to steamy, and this course will help you to determine just how sexy you want your novel to be. We will look at “heat levels”, writing intimacy and how to avoid feeling squeamish when writing about sex.
You’ll be guided, step-by-step, through the process of planning a novel and writing the first draft. You’ll learn how to edit and polish your draft, and explore the wide range of options for publication – looking at how, when and where to send your work to get it published and build your writing community.
By studying this course, you will:
- Gain a better understanding of the romance genre
- Learn about specific elements within romance writing and how to use them
- Become familiar with how to tailor the intimacy level of your writing – sweet to steamy
- Be guided through writing, editing, and polishing your romance novel and the publishing options available
Who is this course for?
The Romance Writing Diploma Course provides a great introduction for those who are new to writing in the genre and those who are new to the genre but have written in others.
The course assumes you have read some romantic literature and are familiar with basic writing terms. If you are interested in building a creative writing project and you love strapping heroes, swooning heroines and happily-ever-afters (perhaps even with a bit of raunch along the way), this course can help you to develop your storytelling, writing and editing skills and work towards creating a piece of romance writing that you can show off with pride. Successful students could pursue writing as a hobby or a potential career.
