The Residential Childcare Worker course brings together a variety of core topics to fully prepare individuals for the challenges and responsibilities of working in care homes for children. Topics such as Child Protection, Safeguarding and Child Protection, Child Neglect Awareness, and Designated Safeguarding Lead ensure learners understand how to protect children from abuse and respond to concerns appropriately.

Mental and emotional health are covered through Children’s Mental Health, Autism, Counselling Children, Speech & Language Therapy, and Child and Adolescent Mental Health. These modules allow learners to identify behavioural disorders, develop therapeutic approaches, and promote inclusive care. The inclusion of Paediatric First Aid and Learning Disability Nursing ensures learners can handle emergencies and support children with additional physical and learning needs.

Courses like Play Therapy, Anger Management and Conflict Resolution, Observation Skills for Carers, and Neuropsychology and Development of Children teach how to observe behaviour, understand triggers, and apply age-appropriate interventions. Communication and support-based modules, including Life Coaching and Counselling, Communication Skills in Health and Social Care, and Assessing Mental Capacity, give learners the tools to develop trust with children and other professionals.
