This pressure ulcer course is suitable for anyone working in a care setting who may have to deal with ulcers. The first unit of the course aims to strengthen your understanding of what a pressure ulcer is and how they develop.
You will then explore the mechanisms that can lead to pressure ulcers developing, you will also learn where on the body pressure damage is most likely and what factors will increase an individual’s risk of pressure ulcer development.
You will then move onto take a more in-depth look at the factors that increase an individual’s risk of developing pressure damage, as well as how pressure damage will present and how it may look when it develops into later categories.
The third unit focuses on how pressure damage is treated, including how fundamental care principles can aid the healing of pressure damage and stop its development, the unit will also discuss dressing selection and wound cleansing techniques, you will also learn about the use of debridement, surgery and negative pressure therapy.
In the final unit you will learn how pressure damage can be avoided and you will explore each principle of the aSSKINg framework and how it should inform pressure damage prevention, you will also gain knowledge of how these techniques should be encouraged for individuals to manage their own pressure areas.

In order to complete the course, you must achieve 80% or more in the final multiple choice quiz.

- Unit 4 – Prevention – In the final unit of the pressure ulcer course you will look at how pressure ulcers can be prevented, including assessments and care plan needs for those at risk of pressure ulcers.
