Description
This course is suitable for supervisors, team leaders and line managers who have a responsibility for managing the performance and conduct of others at work, to enable them to prepare for and participate effectively in the performance appraisal process.
You will start the course off by being introduced to performance appraisals, including why they are used and the benefits and complications of using appraisals. You will then look at the key skills line managers need for conducting performance appraisals, including organisation, time management, active listening, confidence and emotional intelligence.
You will then move onto considering how appraisals should be conducted, including negotiating tricky conversations, setting the tone, open/closed questions and giving constructive feedback.
This course will finish by exploring what happens after the appraisal, including the approaches and methods of training and development to build on the strong aspect and remove the weak aspects of performance, this includes SMART targets, personal development plans (PDPs) and action planning.
In order to complete the course, you must achieve 80% or more in the final multiple choice quiz.
You will earn 3 CPD points on completion of the course, this course will take around 3 hours to complete and the certificate will last for three years.
Units Covered -
- Unit 1 – Introduction to Performance Appraisals Training – In the first unit of this performance appraisals training course you will explore what appraisals are, why they are used and the benefits and complications of using appraisals.
- Unit 2 – Preparing for Appraisals and Key Skills Needed – In this unit you will examine the importance of key skills, such as organisation, active listening, confidence and emotional intelligence needed for conducting appraisals.
- Unit 3 – Conducting Appraisals – This unit will explore how appraisals should be carried out, including setting the tone, easing nerves, open/closed questions, giving constructive feedback, etc.
- Unit 4 – What Happens Next? – In the final unit of the performance appraisals training course, you will look at SMART targets, including what they are and how to set them, personal development plans and action planning.

Requirements
You are required to complete a 30 question multiple choice quiz at the end of the course. Where you need to achieve at least 80% or above to pass. You can complete the quiz as many times as you need to pass.
