Description

Level 4 will cover eight units with 15 credit value each:

  • Individual Project- to work as a team to define, plan and execute a successful project using critical thinking skill needed in various roles within the industry.

  • Construction Technology- It covers technological concepts used to enable the Construction of the building by understanding the functional characteristics and design considerations.

  • Science & Materials- to make material choices to achieve the desired outcomes of a design considering the environmental impact, sustainability, H&S awareness, and the legislative requirements using calculations.

  • Construction Practice & Management- to investigate and research the modern construction industry and apply practical skills embedded within the industry and gain the skills of management.

  • Mathematics for Construction- to employ mathematical skills like critical thinking, problem-solving, analysis, reasoning, within a variety of contextualised examples and interpret data using statistical techniques.

  • Construction Information- to develop an awareness of different types of construction information and their uses in the process, including drawing, detailing, CAD, BIM, schedules, specifications, BoQ.

  • Surveying, Measuring & Setting-out- In civil engineering, there is a need to conduct initial surveys to assist the design team in establishing a clearly defined starting point. Once designed, the priority becomes to ‘set out’ the structures to the required accuracy to facilitate the construction process and carry out ‘as-built’ surveying to assist future maintenance and improvements to the built asset

  • Principles of Structural Design- to explore the fundamental principles of structural design, codes of practice and standards required to construct safe, effective static civil engineering structures commonly used in today’s infrastructure projects.

Who is this course for?

The course is for civil engineering inspired learners wanting to continue their education through applied learning and wish to pursue or advance their career in construction. In addition to the knowledge, understanding and skills that underpin the study of civil engineering, the course will give students an experience of the breadth and depth of the sector that will prepare them for further study or training. The course is for students with a clear line of sight of progression to HND Level 5 and to a degree Level 6, as well as to gain the skill for work readiness in the construction sector.

Requirements

Our typical offer is UCAS Tariff points 64 (new), or equivalent. BTEC Diploma at MM, Extended Diploma at MPP in construction-related qualifications. Other related Level 3 qualifications like Plumbing, Gas, or Electrical Installation will be considered. GCSE English and Maths at grade 4 or above (or equivalent point score) are required. An Access to Higher Education Certificate awarded by an approved further education institution and an application with a related work experience portfolio will be considered on individual bases. Also, an international equivalent of all the above will be assessed for possible enrolment.

FAQs

Study method describes the format in which the course will be delivered. At Reed Courses, courses are delivered in a number of ways, including online courses, where the course content can be accessed online remotely, and classroom courses, where courses are delivered in person at a classroom venue.

CPD stands for Continuing Professional Development. If you work in certain professions or for certain companies, your employer may require you to complete a number of CPD hours or points, per year. You can find a range of CPD courses on Reed Courses, many of which can be completed online.

A regulated qualification is delivered by a learning institution which is regulated by a government body. In England, the government body which regulates courses is Ofqual. Ofqual regulated qualifications sit on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF), which can help students understand how different qualifications in different fields compare to each other. The framework also helps students to understand what qualifications they need to progress towards a higher learning goal, such as a university degree or equivalent higher education award.

An endorsed course is a skills based course which has been checked over and approved by an independent awarding body. Endorsed courses are not regulated so do not result in a qualification - however, the student can usually purchase a certificate showing the awarding body's logo if they wish. Certain awarding bodies - such as Quality Licence Scheme and TQUK - have developed endorsement schemes as a way to help students select the best skills based courses for them.
