Overview

Portable electrical equipment is found in the majority of workplaces. To prevent workplace hazards such as electrical fires and electrical shocks, it’s important that managers and responsible employees are aware of how to perform maintenance check-ups.

This PAT – Portable Appliance Testing Training Course is designed to help you familiarise with testing technical appliances, training you to be able to know how to assess and minimise risks, carry out inspections and understand the safety procedures that need to be in place when using portable appliances at work.

This course is suitable for employers and employees in low-risk workplaces such as shops or offices, who have the responsibility to ensure workplace health and safety. No previous training is required for this course, which can be accessed online from any device.

Course Curriculum

Module 01 - Introduction to Portable Appliance Testing

In Module 1, we define what we mean by PAT testing and other terms used, acquaint ourselves with the relevant legislation and decide who is responsible for the test themselves.

Module 02 - Risk Assessment

Module 2, will outline the essential components of risk assessment and enable learners to carry out a risk assessment in their workplaces. Risk assessment is a legal obligation for all workplaces, and this module will shed light on how risk is assessed, controlled and monitored.

Module 03 - Reducing and Controlling Risks

Module 3, will discuss the actions which are to be taken to reduce and control the risks in workplaces based on the risk assessment.

Module 04 - Combined Inspection and Testing

This final module will cover what a combined inspection and testing involve and the types of equipment which is needed to be assessed.
