Description
Students will learn about the various online threats children face such as cyber bullying, online exploitation and exposure to inappropriate content, the course guides students through recognizing these risks and implementing preventative measures. Students will learn about legal and ethical frameworks and the role of key stake holders as well as the importance of professional collaboration.
We will cover the role of adults in modelling positive digital habits, digital literacy and responsible online behavior. Students will explore internet safety education, parental controls and monitoring and the best practices for internet safety. We will cover scam and fraud awareness and safe online resources and gaming safety.
The course will cover digital citizenship and education, students will learn how to recognize and manage online risks. Students will learn the practical steps for safe online interactions with a step by step guide for setting up safe social media and messaging platforms and balancing screen time and off line activities.
In order to complete the course, you must achieve 80% or more in the final multiple choice quiz.
You will earn 3 CPD points on completion of the course, this course will take around 3 hours to complete and the certificate will last for two years.
Units covered
- Unit 1 – Understanding online risks for children - In the first unit students will examine children's online behavioral patterns, the common risks and threats and the impact of online exposure. We will cover the UK specific legal and ethical guidelines for protecting children. Students will learn about safeguarding best practice and the role of parents educators and society.
- Unit 2 – Digital literacy and responsible online behaviour - In the second unit students we will examine the role of adults in modelling positive digital habits and creating an open environment for dialogue about online experiences. Students will look at age appropriate methods to instill a sense of digital responsibility in children.
- Unit 3 – Internet safety measures and tools - This unit looks at the fundamentals of internet safety, outlining the common risks children face online and the psychological impact these can have. This unit stands as an informative guide for anyone committed to ensuring the digital well-being of children.
- Unit 4 – Creating a safe online environment for children - In the final unit we will look at the complex approach required to safeguard our youngest digital citizens. Students will learn about the latest strategies, best practices and resources underpinned by legislation and guidelines specific to the UK.
