Overview

The Online Level 5 Diploma in Education & Training (DTLLS) is designed for candidates who are already in a teaching / training role with children aged 14 years or above. On the course you will log 100 hours of your current teaching and complete the seven mandatory units.

Successful candidates can then go on to apply for QTLS and have equal parity with PGCE graduates. However the Level 5 qualification alone can be enough to secure a full time teaching position at a college or secondary school (without QTLS).

The course is a great alternative to a degree that may allow candidates to achieve full teacher status in a much smaller time scale and at a fraction of the cost (compared to university).

Description

Upon enrollment learners are sent a welcome package of electronic resources. This includes a combination of presentations, video lectures, assignment templates and a hard copy of a textbook. During this time a welcome call is arranged with a mentor who will mark your work and provide support throughout the course.

The course itself consists of seven mandatory units, each with an assignment attached to it (5-6000 words each). The course encourages reflection along the way and incorporates a final research project, which aims to improve a certain aspect of your teaching practice.

Alongside the written assignments learners are required to log 100 hours of their current teaching which needs to be signed off by your organisation. Eight hours worth of observations are required during this period. It’s preferable if you use another qualified teacher within your workplace. Train Aid can provide this service, but it costs £60 per observation.
