Hi This course is the legal requirement for a qualified electrician, it means you know what you are doing in terms of the equipment and method of fixing etc. It does not make you a qualified electrician only the first stage, To be able to sign off your work you would need another qualification called inspection and testing but you cant do that until you have passed the regulations course Terry

Hi Robert, No not yet the 18th is not available until early July after the regs books have been published. The 17th edition is however valid for 5 years if taken before January 2019 when the new regs are legally required. you could always do the 17th and then update before the 5 year deadline with a short update course. Hi Esther, You will need the 17th edition in the UK but your qualifications should be transferable depending upon the country agreement the Uk awarding body has. Each awarding body has a mapping of the skill sets required. City and Guilds qualifications such as 2382-15 are accepted everywhere in the world. Regards Terry

Hi, The 17th edition is valid for 5 years if taken before July 2018. 18th Edition should be available from July 2018 and a legal requirement for new installations from January 2019 This is the first step to take to become qualified as an electrician and a legal requirement, you will also need a Health and Safety card and later an Inspection qualification if you wish to sign off your work. Hi, It depends upon what you want from the industry. If you want to be an electrician you will need practical experience, theoretical experience and testing experience. The first course you would have to have is the Wiring Regs 17th edition, this would be followed by an inspection course 2394 and then join a competence person scheme Part P. But you must have a level of practical experience to understand the theory part of it, I do not know your experience to be able to judge this element Terry

I have worked in the oil & gas industry as an electrical technical. I now have to have a grading card with Cscs does this course provide this.

Hi Robert, This course is the 17th edition regulations course and is a stand alone qualification, It is one of the qualifications asked for for electricians to get the cards. If you take the exam before January 2019 it will last for 5 years after July 2nd this year the 18th edition will be available and will also last 5 years, so its your choice 17 or 18th but the 18th is not legally required until january 2019 and then only on new installations regards Terry

The qualification 2382-15 applies to British workers but shows a level of achievement to our level 3 which can be matched to any similar countries qualifications. What about the practical aspect of the course. How is that covered on this course? Is the practical workshops not important?

Hi Rachid, There is no requirement for practicals in this qualifications, it is purely about your knowledge of the wiring regulations, so that in practice your installations meet the requirements of the regulations. Your practical knowledge is separate and cannot be covered by this qualification. Inspection and Testing courses cover the practical elements of whether the installation is safe etc Regards Terry
