Description
This course is suitable for organisations who process personal data, including the private and public sector, charities, education, healthcare, SMEs, etc.
It is vital that everyone who handles people’s personal data understands why protecting data is so important, and that they are fully aware of the regulations that have been created to help strengthen data protection.
You will gain knowledge on the key definitions and what data protection is. You will explore the six legal grounds for processing data, including consent, contractual, legal requirements, vital interest and public interest task.
You will learn that the one of the aims of the UK General Data Protection Regulations (UK GDPR) is to empower individuals and give them control over their personal data.
You will finish off the course by exploring who has responsibility for data protection, including data controllers, data processors, data protection officers and the supervisory authority.
In order to complete the course, you must achieve 80% or more in the final multiple choice quiz.
You will earn 3 CPD points on completion of the course, this course will take around 3 hours to complete and the certificate will last for two years.
- Unit 1 – Introduction to Data Protection – In the first unit of the online data protection course, you will explore key definitions, what data protection is, what GDPR is, how leaving the EU has impacted the UK GDPR and the fines for breaking the GDPR.
- Unit 2 – Processing Data – This unit will explore the six legal grounds for processing data and how to obtain consent and how consent can be withdrawn.
- Unit 3 – Rights and Freedoms – In this unit you will explore data subject rights, access rights, the right to be forgotten, the right to restriction, rectification and objection
- Unit 4 – Responsibilities for Data Protection – In the final unit of the online data protection course, you will look at who has responsibility for data protection, data security, reporting breaches, transferring data outside the EEA and penalties for non-compliance.

Requirements
You are required to complete a 30 question multiple choice quiz at the end of the course. Where you need to achieve at least 80% or above to pass. You can complete the quiz as many times as you need to pass.
