Description

By the end of the course delegates will be able to:

  • Explain the scope, aim and key duties under COSHH in the context of the offshore sector.

  • Identify and evaluate hazardous substances commonly used or encountered in offshore wind projects (e.g., cleaning agents, biocides, corrosion inhibitors, hydraulic fluids).

  • Conduct a suitable and sufficient risk assessment for hazardous substances in an offshore wind environment, in line with regulation requirements.

  • Apply the control-hierarchy principles (elimination/substitution, engineering controls, administrative controls, personal protection) in an offshore wind context.

  • Prepare and implement control measures for hazardous substances in marine-/offshore settings (including confined spaces, transition pieces, monopiles). For example, the occurrence of Hâ‚‚S gas in turbine transition pieces subject to COSHH.

  • Establish monitoring, health surveillance and record-keeping requirements appropriate to offshore wind hazardous-substance control.

  • Integrate hazardous-substance control with broader offshore wind lifecycle phases (construction, O&M, decommissioning) and stakeholder roles.

  • Develop a management plan for hazardous substances (selection, usage, storage, disposal) tailored to offshore wind assets.

  • Engage contractors and supply chain in implementing substance-hazard controls within offshore wind projects.

Who is this course for?

This diploma-level course provides a comprehensive understanding of the UK COSHH Regulations as applied to offshore wind projects. It covers the identification, assessment and control of hazardous substances encountered during the lifecycle of offshore wind farms (design, construction, operation/maintenance, decommissioning). Participants will gain both the regulatory knowledge and the practical skills required to manage chemical hazards in an offshore wind environment. The course uses case studies, interactive workshops and practical assignments to translate regulatory theory into real-world application.
