Overview

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder is a well-recognised condition. However, there are many who assume that a person with OCD has to wash their hands repeatedly or has to organise everything around them so that it is ’just so’. In reality, a diagnosis of OCD is made when a person shows signs of obsessive and compulsive behaviour. Being tidy or washing hands repeatedly is only a couple of the issues that plague the sufferer.

The course provides knowledge of the symptoms that are associated with OCD. It explains the differences between obsessions and compulsive behaviours and how other conditions are linked to OCD such as depression, Tourette’s and ADHD. Within the course, the learner will discover what is meant by intrusive and violent thoughts and what these thoughts consist of. This course gives details on the genetic, biological and environmental factors that contribute to OCD.

Although this course predominantly focuses on Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, it also deals with other mental issues such as anxiety disorders. It explains what anxiety is and the symptoms a person may experience whilst feeling anxious. It details anxiety disorders which include phobias, panic attacks and separation anxiety.
