Description
The course will explain the importance of ensuring our bodies are supplied with essential vitamins and minerals in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle and will explain how to understand food labels and cater for different diets. The course will also look at how a poor diet affects health.
You will also explore why healthy eating is important and how diet can impact health in a positive and in a negative way. You will also explore BMI’s and which groups that BMI does not work for. You will also explore obesity and learn that in the UK it is estimated that 1 in every 4 adults and 1 in every 5 children (aged 10 to 11) is obese.
You will explore the importance of hydration and the problems encountered through dehydration. You will then move onto explore the importance of hydration for babies, toddlers and children.
You will then move onto explore what carbohydrates, fats and proteins are and why they are important. You will also look at the essential vitamins and minerals required by our body in order to function well.
You will also cover how nutritional requirements and preferences may vary though different groups of people. Towards the end of the course, you will consider the different allergies and intolerance’s and the regulations surrounding food labeling.
In order to complete the course, you must achieve 80% or more in the final multiple choice quiz.
You will earn 4 CPD points on completion of the course, this course will take around 4 hours to complete and the certificate will last for two years.

- Unit 1 – Introduction to healthy eating and drinking – In the first unit you will explore why healthy eating is important and you will learn how to calculate your body mass index (BMI) and explore how diet and lifestyle can impact health.
- Unit 2 – Water and fluids – In the second unit you will look at the importance of keeping hydrated and explore the health problems encountered by dehydration. You will also look at the importance of consuming alcohol responsibility and the impact of alcohol consumption on health.
- Unit 3 – Carbohydrates, fats and proteins – In this unit you will consider why carbohydrates, fats and proteins are important in a healthy diet, you will also look at the different types of carbohydrates, fats and proteins.
- Unit 4 – Vitamins and minerals – In this unit you will explore the different types of vitamins and minerals, where each one can be sourced and what our bodies need them for.
- Unit 5 – Nutritional needs throughout life – In this unit you will consider the different groups of people and how their nutritional requirements and preferences may vary, this includes pregnant women, vegans, religion, children, etc.
- Unit 6 – Allergies, intolerances and food labelling – In this unit you will look at how diets need to be adapted and changed to suit individuals with certain allergies and intolerances to ensure a healthy balanced diet is being consumed.
- Unit 7 – Diet and healthy eating – In the final unit of the nutrition and healthy eating course you will explore the Eatwell Guide that is recommended by the Department of Health and you will look at the importance of consuming fruit and vegetables and avoiding foods high in fats and sugars.
