Course Content

This course assesses the following units:

Unit 1: Development of NLP – In this unit we will look at what neuro-linguistic programming actually is and how it originated, before examining core skills and techniques specific to NLP.

Unit 2: NLP Principles – This unit will begin by exploring learning styles and modalities so that you will gain an understanding of how some clients prefer one style over the other and how best you can utilise that to build rapport with them. We will then examine modalities and submodalities to see exactly what these are and how they can be utilised to help someone change an unwanted behaviour, particularly in respect to a fear or a phobia.

Unit 3: NLP Values, Belief Systems and Modalities – Everyone holds a set of beliefs or values about something – some with more opinions about things than others! The way we think about something determines how we behave and the same can be said for others as well. This is why, as a practitioner, it is important that you understand the values and beliefs of your clients so that you can work with them to change them if this is what is required. We will look at psychological theories, which will help us to understand how individuals can develop their belief systems as they grow and develop.

Unit 4: Levels in NLP and Language – This unit will consider one of the most important aspects of NLP – acquisition and use of language. The understanding of this is vital if therapy is to be effective, and in this unit, we will consider why this is the case. This is quite a large section of the unit and there will be a lot of information to take in as well as some activities to complete in order to consolidate your knowledge. We will also examine transference – this is something that you may have come across already in terms of general counselling, and we will build on that knowledge by exploring what it means and showing how it applies within an NLP context.

Unit 5: NLP Programme Design – This unit will introduce the concept of ‘reframing’, which will allow you to see the ways in which clients may be able to look at a situation in a number of different ways. This will allow them to have an alternative view of something with, hopefully, a more positive outlook. Anchoring will then be examined – this is another technique used within NLP therapy and we will look at how it works and why it can be such an effective method for clients to use, both whilst in sessions and when they are elsewhere.

Unit 6: Applications of NLP and Professional practice – The final unit in this NLP course examines the practicalities of carrying out NLP techniques in a therapeutic manner. There is much consideration of ethical practice in general and then a specific section on how this relates to NLP. Within this discussion, we will look at the legislation that will need to be followed to ensure that your practice is safe for all of your clients and, of course, for you as well. A large part of this section will be concerned with confidentiality as this is a vital aspect of any kind of therapy practice.

This course can be taken over a 12 month period but you can complete it as fast or as slowly as you wish.
