Description

In our Minute Taking course, you will learn that regardless of the industry you work in, the kind of work you do, or if you are involved with any organisations on a voluntary or special interest basis, it is inevitable that at some point you will need to participate in a meeting – you may even be asked to take the minutes.

The course will cover the the important aspects of minute taking, what crucial skills are required to take effective minutes during a meeting and how to plan and prepare in advance. You will look at the importance of meetings and why they are thought to be essential for team building, openly sharing information and ideas, collaborating and getting consensus.

You will look at what minute taking is and why minutes from every meeting should be kept on record. You will explore what the role of a minute taker involves and what needs to be recorded and avoided during a meeting. You will look at what the role of a Chairperson is, why it is important to have a Chairperson in a meeting and what there responsibilities are.

You will cover what a minute taker should do upon entering the meeting and the equipment needed and what to be avoided. You will look at some of the key definitions and terminologies that may be used in a meeting as well as looking at what happens during the meeting and consider the role that a minute taker will need to play to help make the meeting a success.

You will finish the course by exploring what to include and how to write the final minutes, the different styles of writing and how to finish the meeting.

In order to complete the course, you must achieve 80% or more in the final multiple choice quiz.

You will earn 3 CPD points on completion of the course, this course will take around 3 hours to complete and the certificate will last for two years.

  • Unit 1 – Introduction to minute taking – In the first unit you be introduced to minute taking and why it is important. You will consider that being a minute taker in a meeting requires important skills in ensuring you know what to record, how to do it without missing critical decisions and information and how to ensure actions and next steps are complete.
  • Unit 2 – Preparing for a meeting – In this unit you will look at what makes a successful meeting, what the agenda is, agenda items, reading the agenda, research, equipment needed and what needs to be avoided and how to arrange for other equipment and documents.
  • Unit 3 – What happens during the meeting – In this unit you will explore what the core task of a minute taker during the meeting is, what to do upon entering the meeting, how to take effective minutes, recording motions and how to maintain focus. You will finish the unit by looking at how to deal with a stressful meeting and conversations that go off track.
  • Unit 4 – After the meeting has taken place – In this unit you will consider how to write up the minutes taken and what to include and when to write it. You will finish the unit by looking at the importance of action points in meeting minutes, the useful terminologies, and minute templates.

You are required to complete a multiple choice quiz at the end of the course, you need to score 80% or above to pass. If you don't pass first time, you can retake as many times as you need for free.
