This Meteorology course consists of seven structured lectures, followed by an assessment and final exam. Each lecture builds progressively, guiding learners from foundational concepts to broader environmental and climate-related topics.
The course begins with an introduction to meteorology, outlining the scope of weather science, key terminology, and the importance of atmospheric study. Learners develop an understanding of why meteorology is essential for interpreting weather patterns and environmental change.
The atmosphere module explores atmospheric layers, composition, pressure, temperature, and circulation processes. This provides the scientific foundation required to understand weather formation and variation.
Clouds and their development examine cloud types, formation mechanisms, and atmospheric conditions influencing cloud behaviour. This is followed by precipitation, where learners explore rainfall, snowfall, hail, and the processes that cause different forms of precipitation.
Natural hazards focus on weather-related events such as storms, heatwaves, floods, and droughts. Learners develop awareness of how these hazards form and their potential impacts, without operational or emergency response training.
The solar system module explores the Sun–Earth relationship, solar radiation, and planetary influences that affect climate and atmospheric behaviour. This broader perspective supports understanding of long-term climate patterns.
Climate change and global warming examine scientific evidence, atmospheric drivers, and global impacts, encouraging informed and critical engagement with one of the most significant modern challenges in meteorology.
Certification
Upon successful completion of the Meteorology Fundamentals and Weather Science Awareness course, learners receive a free digital certificate provided by Reed confirming course completion. After verification, a provider-issued certificate is also available. Learners may optionally order premium certificates and academic transcripts in hardcopy or softcopy formats for an additional cost.
