Description

In our Mental Health in Schools course you will be exploring some strategies that can support good mental health and well-being both in children and young people.

You will also explore why depression and anxiety are the two most common forms of mental health issues that children and young people may experience, as well as enabling you to spot some of the signs of mental illnesses that specifically come about due to abuse and trauma in children.

You will be looking at the various different aspects of how positive mental health can be promoted in children and how this can impact their well-being and reduce the possibility of developing mental health problems.

To make the learning environment equal you will study the importance of providing additional support for children with mental health problems and/or special educational needs and disabilities.

All courses are regulated with the CPD Certification Service and fully approved as proof of continued professional development.

In order to complete the course, you must achieve 80% or more in the final multiple choice quiz.

You will earn 3 CPD points on completion of the course, this course will take around 3 hours to complete and the certificate will last for two years.

  • Unit 1 - Introduction to mental health and well-being in schools - The first unit of our Mental Health In Schools course will give you an overview of some key terms that can support good mental health and well-being in both adults and children. You will also learn what children can expect from their teachers when they have a mental health condition and are still attending school.
  • Unit 2 - Types of mental health issues in children and young children - In this unit you will explore the two most common forms of mental health issues that children and young people are likely to experience.
  • Unit 3 - Recognising signs of mental illness in children and young people - You will have explored in this unit some of the signs of mental illness. You have also considered in this unit what somatic symptoms are and how these impact children who are experiencing mental health problems.
  • Unit 4 - Promoting positive mental health - In this unit you will have looked at various different aspects of positive mental health and how it can be promoted in children.
  • Unit 5 - Survival in the classroom - You will have considered some aspects of the classroom that would enable children to learn in a safe and supportive environment.
  • Unit 6 - Additional support - You have considered in this unit some of the forms of additional support that children with mental health problems and/or special education needs and disabilities may need in order to ensure that they are able to learn equally.
  • Unit 7 - Healthy lifestyles - In this final unit of our Mental Health in Schools course you will have looked at some of the ways in which children and young people can be encouraged to have a healthy lifestyle in order to promote good mental and physical well-being.
