GCSE Maths is an essential qualification, It will help you meet the requirements for college and university, vocational training, apprenticeships and work opportunities. Mathematics is one of the longest established disciplines and underpinning many others, mathematics is the language of science and engineering and an intellectual field in its own right.

This expertly produced course is designed to help you learn so that you can achieve the qualification you need. You can choose whether to study at Foundation or Higher level and, with feedback from your work on the course and from your tutor, you can switch levels during the early sections of the course. This means that by the time you need to register for exams, you can be confident that you have chosen the right level for you. GCSE’s are Qualifications that count.

Description

Study Hours

You should allow for between 120 and 150 hours’ study time, plus additional time for completing assignments.


Study Method

Our course is delivered via our online learning platform as this provides learners with a dynamic and engaging experience. Don’t worry, if you prefer, you can print the learning materials yourself. The learning resources are in a range of different media including videos, e-books, and online quizzes.


Course Duration

You will benefit from our personal tutor support for a period of up to 18 months from the date of enrolment.


Assessment

All enrolments now will be for exams in Summer 2021.

Our Maths GCSE is a tiered exam. This means you get to choose what level you want to study your exams.

There are two tiers to choose from:

  • Foundation tier
    • Grades 1 to 5
    • Grade 5 is the highest award you can achieve
    • Grade five is the equivalent of a grade C
  • Higher tier
    • Grades 4 to 9
    • Grade 9 is the highest award you can achieve
    • Grade 9 is the equivalent of a grade A*

Official exams

You’ll be required to complete the three GCSE standard written exams.

  • 1 hour 30 minutes, 33.3% of marks (non-calculator)
  • 1 hour 30 minutes, 33.3% of marks (calculator)
  • 1 hour 30 minutes, 33.3% of marks (calculator)

We provide a guaranteed exam space in one of our exam centres around the country, to take away the hassle of needing to find your own. Check where your closest exam centre is.

Assignments

During your course, you will also be required to complete one introductory assignment and 10 assignments. These do not contribute towards your final grade but provide you with an opportunity to submit work to your tutor for marking and feedback. This will help you to gauge your progress as you work through the course. There is no coursework to complete. All exams must be taken in the same session.


Course Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this home learning course, you will receive a GCSE in Mathematics, issued by AQA. This syllabus has been chosen specifically because it is the best suited to distance learning.

What does study method mean?

What is a ‘regulated qualification’?

A regulated qualification is delivered by a learning institution which is regulated by a government body. In England, the government body which regulates courses is Ofqual. Ofqual regulated qualifications sit on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF), which can help students understand how different qualifications in different fields compare to each other. The framework also helps students to understand what qualifications they need to progress towards a higher learning goal, such as a university degree or equivalent higher education award.

What is an ‘endorsed’ course?

An endorsed course is a skills based course which has been checked over and approved by an independent awarding body. Endorsed courses are not regulated so do not result in a qualification - however, the student can usually purchase a certificate showing the awarding body’s logo if they wish. Certain awarding bodies - such as ABC Awards and TQUK - have developed endorsement schemes as a way to help students select the best skills based courses for them.
