According to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE):
“Organisations have a legal duty to put in place suitable arrangements to manage for health and safety. As this can be viewed as a wide-ranging, general requirement HSE encourages a common-sense and practical approach. It should be part of the everyday process of running an organisation and an integral part of workplace behaviours and attitudes.”
Whatever your industry, or the size or nature of your organisation, the keys to effectively managing health and safety are:
- Leadership and management (including appropriate processes)
- A trained/skilled workforce operating in an environment where people are trusted and involved.
The primary piece of legislation which affects Health and Safety matters in the workplace is the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974. Other regulations that organisations must be aware of are the ‘six-pack’ regulations:
The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations,The Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations, The Health and Safety (Display Screen Equipment) Regulations, The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations, The Manual Handling Operations Regulations, The Personal Protective Equipment at Work Regulations. Requirements
This online training is RoSPA Approved. Once the 60 minute course is completed, users must take a final test consisting of 10 questions. The final test has a minimum pass rate requirement of 70%. On successful completion of the test users can download and print off a completion certificate.
