Description
Exams and looming deadlines can leave a student too wound up to think clearly, revise properly, or sit the
exam at all. This course helps with that. It gives mentors, coaches, and support staff practical ways to
support a student in the moment, and to help them build coping skills that last beyond one bad exam week.
Three things sit at the centre of it: understanding why stress and anxiety happen, CBT-informed coaching
techniques, and grounding strategies for the body. All of it stays within the limits of a non-clinical support
role. Stress and anxiety do not look the same for every student, so that variation is built into the course from
the start rather than added on afterward. The need for this kind of support has grown: the proportion of UK
students disclosing a mental health condition to their university rose from under 1% in 2010/11 to 5.8% in
2022/23 (Lewis & Stiebahl, 2025).
