This Lifeguard Training Awareness and Water Safety Principles course consists of 12 structured lectures, followed by an assessment and final exam, each addressing a key area of lifeguard knowledge and water safety awareness.
The course begins with an introduction to the professional lifeguard role, outlining responsibilities, ethical conduct, and the importance of vigilance and professionalism. Lifeguard observation explores scanning techniques, situational awareness, and recognising signs of distress or risk in aquatic environments.
Safety and risk management introduce hazard identification, accident prevention, and environmental awareness to reduce the likelihood of incidents. Emergency response activity is examined conceptually, focusing on response priorities, communication, and coordination rather than hands-on rescue practice.
Learners then explore rescuing a responsive victim and rescuing an unresponsive victim from an awareness perspective, emphasising decision-making, personal safety, and escalation protocols. Injury prevention examines common aquatic injuries and how proactive safety measures can reduce risk.
First aid principles introduce basic response awareness for injuries, bleeding, shock, and sudden illness, without providing licensed medical training. Respiratory emergencies focus on breathing-related incidents commonly associated with water environments, while cardiac emergencies introduce recognition of cardiac distress and response awareness.
Assessment and a final exam evaluate learners’ understanding of lifeguard concepts, water safety principles, and emergency awareness within appropriate educational boundaries.
