The Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (RQF) replaced the Children's Residential Management pathway for the Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care and Children and Young People's Services.

The Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (RQF) is regulated by Ofqual and recognised by OFSTED for managers of residential childcare settings and care homes for children and young people.

This is not a government funded programme, and therefore no government funding available. The Learner pays the course fees.

The RRP is £2640.

The COVID-19 outbreak has adversely affected the income of many people. To support prospective learners, there is now an additional lower monthly fee payable over 18 months (no credit checks).

Description

The objective of the Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (RQF) is to support the role of managers of care homes for children and your people, and other residential childcare settings.

This qualification is the required qualification recognised and approved by OFSTED and Skills for Care for managers of residential childcare settings.

This is a combined knowledge and competency qualification and must be undertaken by individuals who are working, volunteering or on practical placement as managers within the residential childcare sector.

Learners undertaking this qualification will be managing services for children and young people from birth to 25 years of age. This extended age range takes into account the entitlements for children and young people with complex disabilities and conditions.

This qualification includes mandatory core knowledge relating to the development of children and young people, and understanding the provision of support for children and young people who are vulnerable and disadvantaged.

It also includes mandatory core skills relating to leading and managing a team, safeguarding and protecting children and young people, communication and information management, managing risk, leading and managing group living and leading a service to support children and young people who have experienced harm or abuse.

Training and Learning:

Learners receive support with the learner fully in charge of their own timetable.

Assessments and assessment support

Each learner has their own password-protected e-Portfolio for assessments and assignments.

Qualification structure

To complete the Highfield Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (RQF), learners must complete the following:

• all units contained within the mandatory group

• a minimum of 8 credits from at least 3 units units from optional group A

12 Lead practice to promote the rights, diversity and equality of children and young people in residential childcare

13 Lead networks and multi-agency work to benefit children and young people in residential childcare

14 Implement a Positive Relationship Policy in residential childcare

15 Undertake professional development in residential childcare settings

Optional group

Learners must achieve a minimum of 8 credits from a minimum of 3 units from this group.

16 Understand the care system and its impact on children and young people

17 Lead a residential childcare service that can engage with the youth justice system

18 Understand the youth justice system as it relates to residential childcare

19 Lead practice to support young people leaving care

20 Understand the context of residential childcare for children and young people with complex disabilities or conditions

21 Principles for leading the transition of young people with complex disabilities or conditions to adult services

22 Support others to understand models of disability and their effects on working practice with children and young people

23 Undertake a research project within services for health and social care or children and young people

How long does it take – Duration of the course

Flexible. Learners can complete the qualification as fast as they want, however learners must be aware that all assessments must be completed to the required Level 5 standard.

There are at least 18 units to complete. Many learners can complete the qualification within 18 months. Some learners take between 24 and 30 months. We can extend the duration to 36 months and support the learner to complete their learning.

What certificates do you get when you complete your course?

On full completion of this qualification, the learner will receive the full Highfield Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (RQF), issued by Highfield Qualifications (Highfield Awarding Body for Compliance - HABC).

Requirements

You must live and work in England.

Learners need to have access to a computer/laptop/tablet with internet access, to be able to use the e-Portfolio.

Learners must:

  • Be working as a manager, either paid or voluntary, on practical placement as managers within the residential childcare sector, or a care home for children.
  • Be at least 19 years of age
  • Be able able to demonstrate prior achievement of qualifications at a minimum of Level 3 in a related area.
  • Employers will expect learners to have completed a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

Career path

Completing this qualification makes you fully qualified to manage a care facility for children. It makes you eligible for Registered Manager status with OFSTED
