- Course content:
To achieve the Diploma in Education and Training, you will need to achieve 120 credits. There are 4 mandatory units counting towards 75 credits. Of the optional units for the Diploma in Education and Training, MKLC's programme uses Developing, using and organising resources in a specialist area, Inclusive practice, and Teaching in a specialist area. These units are suitable for people from all industries and tailors the course to your area of specialism.
Learners on the course will cover the following:
- Theories, principles and models in education and training
- Developing teaching, learning and assessment in education and training
- Teaching, learning and assessment in education and training
- Wider professional practice and development in education and training
- Developing, using and organising resources in a specialist area
- Inclusive practice
- Teaching in a specialist area
- Teaching Practice
You are required to cover 100 hours of teaching practice. This should be logged on the document we provide for you. Within these 100 hours, you must produce 8 hours of observations of your teaching practice. These can be carried out in your own teaching environment, preferably over a period of time to show your progression. The observer can be your own manager or a qualified teacher who can give you support, they will need to have at least a level 5 teaching qualification and be able to provide evidence of these. Teaching practice can also be observed remotely. It is advised that each observation should be 1 hour as the purpose is to show your progression.

Who is this course for?
This course is suited to anyone over 18 who is interested in looking to obtain an accredited teaching qualification.
The DET is suitable for teachers, trainers and tutors working in further education, adult and community learning or work-based training within public, private, voluntary or community organisations.
The qualification can meet the needs of a range of trainee teachers and trainers, including:
- individuals who are not currently teaching and training but who can meet the practice requirements, including the observed and assessed practice requirements of the qualification
- individuals who are currently teaching and training, including those who have just begun teaching and training and who can meet the practice requirements, including the observed and assessed practice requirements, of the qualification
- individuals currently working as assessors who wish to achieve a teaching qualification and who can meet the practice requirements, including the observed and assessed practice, of the qualification.
Requirements
Learners should be competent in literacy and numeracy to help with elements of communication.
Potential teacher trainees wishing to take any of the specialist optional units will need to evidence Level 3 personal skills in English or mathematics, as appropriate.
Relevant NQF/QCF/RQF Level 4 diploma or equivalent recognised qualification
The learner must be 18 years or older at the time of starting the course
