There are no separate exams for this qualification, only Assessments.

Important Note: The initial payment of £24 paid through this site covers administration, qualification induction, initial learning resources, and advice and guidance (IAG).

After completing the induction, learners must create their monthly payment plan (as detailed in the fees) to pay the remaining fees, and to be given access to all the assessment support materials and assessments on the e-portfolio.

Highfield Level 3 Diploma in Adult Care (RQF) was known as Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care (QCF), and also NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care.

It is approved by CQC and Skills for Care as the qualification for Senior Care Assistants and Senior Support Workers.

It is recognised by Ofqual.

This delivery option is distance-learning and online learning, and self-paced.

This qualification is accredited by Ofqual for delivery in England, UK only. Therefore, if you don't physically live and work in England, UK, you wouldn't be able to complete the practical elements of this course.

The Highfield Level 3 Diploma in Adult Care (RQF) confirms occupational competence for identified roles in the Health and Social Care workforce in England.

Who is this qualification for?

This qualification confirms competence in areas of health and social care for roles, such as:

  • Senior care assistants, senior support workers, senior key workers in residential settings
  • Senior healthcare assistants/support workers in community and primary care environments
  • Senior healthcare assistants/support workers in acute health environments
  • Senior care assistants/support workers/key workers in domiciliary services

Programme Content – What the learner will study

To fully achieve the Highfield Level 3 Diploma in Adult Care (RQF), learners must complete a minimum of 58 credits, comprising nine (9) mandatory units, and seven (7) optional units. Total number of units studied are 16 units.

The mandatory units are:

2 Promote effective handling of information in care settings

3 Promote personal development in care settings

4 Promote person-centred approaches in care settings

5 Promote equality and inclusion in care settings

6 Promote health, safety and wellbeing in care settings

7 Responsibilities of a care worker

8 Duty of care in care settings

9 Promote safeguarding and protection in care settings

Learners will also choose 30 credits or 7 optional units from the list of optional units below, which are:

13 - Understand the process and experience of dementia

18 - The Principles of Infection Prevention and Control

29 - Understand sensory loss

63 - Move and position individuals in accordance with their care plan

66 - Provide support to maintain and develop skills for everyday life

Optional Units will be chosen when the learner fully enrols into the qualification. The units listed above are offered as part of the discounted fees.

How Learning is delivered

The Highfield Level 3 Diploma in Adult Care (RQF) is delivered through various channels including online textbooks, workbooks, other online learning materials, online course discussions, and also one-to-one support by a tutor, as appropriate.

How Learning is Assessed
Learners are assessed through a series of questions and workbooks to assess their knowledge and understanding.

To assess the learner's practical skills and competence, the Assessor will use a variety of assessment methods to gather work-based evidence including:

  • Case Studies
  • Professional Discussions

Learners will be guided and supported to prepare for assessments.

There are no workplace visits.

All assessments will be done and signed off by the Assessor, and there is no need to involve your Manager or your Employer.

On completion, the learner will be awarded the Highfield Level 3 Diploma in Adult Care (RQF) awarded by Highfield Awarding Body for Compliance, Highfield Qualifications.

This course requires that the learner is currently working in a care job in England, either in social care or in health care.

Yes and yes. Yes, this course used to be called NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care but the name was changed about 5 years ago and it was upgraded to a Diploma. Yes, this qualification is a recognised UK qualification, accredited by Ofqual.

This qualification is for those working in care settings for adults. If your role is equivalent to a live-in Personal Assistant working to provide 24 hour care for one person, then yes you can study for this qualification. If not, then no you can't. Whatever your role is, note that if you are studying for this qualification, your assignments and assessments will be expected to meet the standards at Level 3 for this Ofqual-recognised national qualification.

This Diploma in Adult Care has skills-based assessments covering the duties of a senior care assistant working in Adult Care, NOT child care, and requires you to be working in a care setting for Adults. It does not have to be a full-time job and can be a volunteer position, providing care for a wide variety of adults.

Yes, this qualification is accepted for roles in Health and Social Care settings. However, as some Healthcare Assistant jobs in the NHS can be quite specialised while retaining the generic job title of Healthcare Assistant for reasons of salary rate, therefore check with the particular NHS job you are going for. The qualification can be done via a work-placement, provided that the tasks carried out in the work placement would be the same as in a real paid role at that same level.

No you can't. The job role for this qualification must be the current job role, and not one you did years ago. A ward housekeeper is a domestic service role keeping the ward clean and tidy, serving and clearing away meals, preparing snacks and drinks, etc. It is not the same job role as a care assistant who provides regulated services such as personal care. If you want to study for this qualification, you must get one of the job roles specified in the course advert.

It depends on the actual content of your job. Tt's best to look at the units as explained in the Course Information and decide if these will be suitable for you in your job role. If you decide to pay the £20 to access further Information, Advice and Guidance, then do so. That limits your financial commitment to £20, unless you choose to move on to full enrolment on any qualification at which point you will then create a payment plan to pay for associated assessments, quality assurance etc

You don't need to do Level 2 before Level 3 if you are already work in a care home. We wion't visit your workplace, we use a variety of methods to collect workplace evidence. The remaining fee covers everything required including assessments and Awarding Body certification on completion. There is no separate additional fee for certificate.

No, this course is not available to international students. That is why we stated very clearly on the course information that "You must live and work in England to study for this qualification".

What does study method mean?

Study method describes the format in which the course will be delivered. At reed.co.uk courses are delivered in a number of ways, including online courses, where the course content can be accessed online remotely, and classroom courses, where courses are delivered in person at a classroom venue.

What are CPD hours/points?

CPD stands for Continuing Professional Development. If you work in certain professions or for certain companies, your employer may require you to complete a number of CPD hours or points, per year. You can find a range of CPD courses on reed.co.uk, many of which can be completed online.

What is a ‘regulated qualification’?

A regulated qualification is delivered by a learning institution which is regulated by a government body. In England, the government body which regulates courses is Ofqual. Ofqual regulated qualifications sit on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF), which can help students understand how different qualifications in different fields compare to each other. The framework also helps students to understand what qualifications they need to progress towards a higher learning goal, such as a university degree or equivalent higher education award.

What is an ‘endorsed’ course?

An endorsed course is a skills based course which has been checked over and approved by an independent awarding body. Endorsed courses are not regulated so do not result in a qualification - however, the student can usually purchase a certificate showing the awarding body’s logo if they wish. Certain awarding bodies - such as Quality Licence Scheme and TQUK - have developed endorsement schemes as a way to help students select the best skills based courses for them.
