The Level 3 Award in Education and Training (AET) is a nationally recognised train the trainer and teaching qualification. It was formerly known as PTLLS. Designed for trainers, tutors or instructors who deliver training in the workplace, private training providers, colleges, local authorities, or any other adult education role.

We also offer a range of CPD-accredited train-the-trainer courses if you are looking to gain a train-the-trainer certificate without completing written essays.

Micro-Teach Session

You must design and deliver a 15-minute micro-teach session. This can be done in several ways:

  • Join an online session with other ATC Training students (we have several slots each month)
  • Use a real workplace session (record it, or have it observed by a qualified person at work)
  • Mock up a session and send in a recording for review.

The Level 3 Award in Education and Training (AET) was formerly known as PTLLS and is generally the minimum level of qualification to teach in an adult education setting.

The Level 3 Award in Education and Training qualification is the first step to teaching in further education and is a nationally recognised teaching qualification. Employers usually prefer to source an accredited train-the-trainer qualification.

Assessment Methods

The Level 3 Award in Education and Training (AET) includes three written assignments and a practical micro-teach session. There are various ways the micro-teach can be completed, including an observation in your own workplace by a qualified colleague or a remote observation. You can join an online micro-teach session with us at no extra cost.

Delivery Methods

We offer a choice of delivery methods for the Level 3 Award in Education and Training, including:

  • Self-paced study (with tutor support) – ideal for individual learners who can enrol online at any time for immediate access to course materials and complete your practical assessment remotely.
  • Scheduled Online 2-day course with a tutor - we have regular dates available to join our tutor-led course. Leave the two day course with the knowledge you need to complete the written work, submit your assignments and plan your micro-teach session.
  • In-house/company (Remote or face-to-face) – We offer this nationally recognised teaching and train the trainer qualification as an in-house course with a choice of delivery methods. We can deliver it fully remotely, fully in the classroom, or combination of both. You may only be able to release your colleagues to attend training one day a week, or on an evening, or weekend. Contact us to discuss your needs.

Who is this course for?

The Level 3 Award in Education and Training (RQF), replaces the qualification previously known as PTLLS. It is suitable for:

  • Individuals looking to get into teaching at a college or private training provider, or already working as a tutor, lecturer or other teaching staff
  • Tutors / trainers delivering funded courses and qualifications
  • Corporate / workplace trainers looking for a recognised train the trainer qualification

It is also the common choice for those who are looking to become a first aid trainer, manual handling trainer etc. This provides a recognised teaching qualification that compliments other subject matter expertise.

This is also a recognised train the trainer qualification by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) under the quality assurance framework (QAF).

Requirements

Learners must be aged 19+ years to be enrolled onto the Level 3 Award in Education and Training.
