Overview

The Level 2 Award in Support Work in Schools (QCF) is regulated by Ofqual and Awarded through Training Qualifications UK. The qualification aims to develop the knowledge and understanding that all staff working in a school setting will require. It is suitable for those interested or already working in a school support staff role, including teaching assistants, MSAs, caretakers, administrators and site staff.

The qualification covers understanding of the school system, structure and underpinning policies/legislations, safeguarding, communication with adults, children and young people and how children and young people develop.

Description

The Level 2 Award can be taken by anyone interested in working with children in a school environment. You do not need to be employed, volunteering or have any experience in schools. This is an ideal qualification for those seeking a change of career or who are just starting out in a school environment.

There are no formal entry requirements for the Level 2 qualifications. However, learners must:

  • Have proficient English language and literacy skills to be able to achieve the qualification at Level 2.
  • Have an email address, access to a computer and the internet, be able to open and edit Word documents (free software available), send emails and have basic IT skills.
  • Be over 18 years of age.
  • At current DBS (formerly CRB) check if working in a school

Study method describes the format in which the course will be delivered. Certain awarding bodies - such as Quality Licence Scheme and TQUK - have developed endorsement schemes as a way to help students select the best skills based courses for them.
