Description

A traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) therapy, moxibustion is a form of heat therapy in which a stick or cone of ground dried plants – moxa – is burned on or near the body’s acupuncture points and meridians. The primary goal is to warm and encourage the flow of qi in the body and ward off harmful pathogenic influences.

You’ll learn how this incredible therapy works, the methods used in its practice, all about the genus of plants used in its application, the body’s moxibustion points, how a moxibustion clinic is set up, and how to interact with clients.

The Introduction to Moxibustion Diploma Course begins with an explanation of what moxibustion is and how it works and outlines its historical origins, modern-day uses and possible side effects.

As moxibustion is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) therapy, we delve further into TCM - looking at what it is, its scope, the historical origins of Yin-Yang, Qi, and meridian points and how the elements of TCM apply in modern-day disease management.

We’ll explore common and emerging moxibustion methods, direct and indirect moxibustion and the practical ways in which moxibustion is performed. You’ll learn about the biology of Artemisia (the genus of the herbs used in moxibustion), including its purposes, side effects and benefits.

The course explains what moxibustion points are, how they are used, and how to locate them. You’ll take a journey around the whole body, learning each point’s name and the ailments associated with them.

We’ll look into the importance moxibustion clinics and businesses place on best practices, what’s involved in the client consultation process, why health and safety require careful consideration and the importance of continual learning within the role. We’ll also look at the methods of practising moxibustion and where practitioners may be based.

Who is this course for?

The Introduction to Moxibustion Diploma Course has been created to be accessible to beginners, whilst providing practitioners of other traditional Chinese medicine therapies with greater insight into the topic.

You’ll learn how moxibustion is used to relieve various ailments and when it should be used. You’ll also learn about the many meridians that can be found in the body and their associated moxibustion points.
