Description

A lot of crimes are committed on a daily basis. Yet, the most serious ones like genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity receive the most attention not only because of the number of victims involved, but also due to the cruelty that goes into such acts, which is deemed beyond the scope of human capability. In order to bring to justice those who have committed such atrocious crimes and prevent their occurrence, the international criminal law has been instituted and in effect.

The international criminal law is a body of rules and practices that systematically prohibits crimes that are considered as serious atrocities and brings into justice those who have perpetrated such crimes. This body of law has its basis on the principles of human rights, domestic criminal law, and international humanitarian law. Given that the field has a wide scope, basic understanding of its core areas can help remove some of its complexities and zero in on its applications and implementation. As such, this course is meant to give you a manageable introduction into the field.

This Online International Criminal Law Course will deliver to you a circumscribed view of this body of rules and practices. It will define international criminal law and discuss its origins, types, purposes and roles. It will also give you an insight into international criminal courts and their structures. The course will also delve into core categories of crimes that are punishable under international law, including atrocity crimes, transnational crimes, and terrorism.

A regulated qualification is delivered by a learning institution which is regulated by a government body. In England, the government body which regulates courses is Ofqual. Ofqual regulated qualifications sit on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF), which can help students understand how different qualifications in different fields compare to each other. The framework also helps students to understand what qualifications they need to progress towards a higher learning goal, such as a university degree or equivalent higher education award.

An endorsed course is a skills based course which has been checked over and approved by an independent awarding body. Endorsed courses are not regulated so do not result in a qualification - however, the student can usually purchase a certificate showing the awarding body's logo if they wish. Certain awarding bodies - such as Quality Licence Scheme and TQUK - have developed endorsement schemes as a way to help students select the best skills based courses for them.
