Description
On completion of the course, students will gain knowledge about the various types and elements of health and safety management systems. Students will cover the legal requirements and what employers must do to comply with the law covering the PDCA approach recommended by the HSE.
Students will have an introduction to planning a health and safety management system, and an overview of developing a health and safety policy and setting goals and objectives. Students will look at the requirements for legal compliance, emergency planning and how to plan for measuring performance.
Students will examine three key areas which include, risk profiling, organizing activities and plan implementation and consider how business’s need to implement their health and safety plan and the requirements surrounding documentation.
The course will cover monitoring, why it is important and some examples. Students will consider why accident and incident investigation’s are essential in health and safety management. Students will explore reviewing health and safety management systems and performance, learning lessons and continual improvement.
In order to complete the course, you must achieve 80% or more in the final multiple choice quiz.
You will earn 3 CPD points on completion of the course, this course will take around 3 hours to complete and the certificate will last for two years.
Units covered
- Unit 1 - Understanding Health and Safety Management Systems - In the first unit students will learn about health and safety management and the process of managing health and safety risks. We will cover the importance of health and safety and employer responsibilities and explore legal requirements and the PDCA approach.
- Unit 2 - Planning and Policy - In the second unit Students will learn about planning and health and safety policy. Students will find out what a statement of intent is as part of health and safety policy and explore legal compliance.
- Unit 3 - Implementing Plans - In the third unit students will examine three key areas including risk profiling, organising activities, planning implementation and consider what businesses need to implement their health and safety plan and the requirement’s around documentation.
- Unit 4 - Monitoring, review and continual improvement - In the final unit students will learn abut “Check” which involves measuring performance and investigating accidents and incidents. Students will also cover active and reactive monitoring, KPIs and the PDCA cycle.

Requirements
You are required to complete a 30 question multiple choice quiz at the end of the course. Where you need to achieve at least 80% or above to pass. You can complete the quiz as many times as you need to pass.
