Description

On completion of the course, students will gain an understanding of health and safety for young workers. You will establish who young workers are and look at statistics. We will explore the types of youth employment, the barriers to employment and the benefits of employing young people.

We will cover risk assessments for young workers and how to risk assess effectively additional risks for young workers and how to measure and control these risks.

You will learn about the legislation that applies to the employment of young workers, what the legislation means in practice and how employers can comply with it.

We will cover how to train and safeguard young workers and best practice advice is given for the training and supervision of young workers.

In order to complete the course, you must achieve 80% or more in the final multiple choice quiz.

You will earn 3 CPD points on completion of the course, this course will take around 3 hours to complete and the certificate will last for two years.

Units covered

  • Unit 1 –Introduction to Health and Safety for Young Workers – In the first unit we will establish who young workers are and consider current employment statistics for young people. We will cover the types of youth employment and the barriers to employment as well as the benefits of employing a young worker.
  • Unit 2 – Risk Assessments and Accident Reporting – In this unit you will explore risk assessment processes. We will cover what is meant by risk and how to access levels of risk. You will learn how to conduct a risk assessment.
  • Unit 3 – Health and safety Legislation and Laws for young Workers – In the third unit we will learn about the law relating to young workers and you will review the health and safety (Young Persons) regulations and how these apply in the workplace.
  • Unit 4 – Training and Safeguarding Young Workers – In the final unit you will learn about best practice for training and supervising young workers including induction training, workplace shadowing and the “buddy support system”

Who is this course for?

This course is aimed at employers or organisations that employ or wish to employ young people aged from 14 years upwards, can offer work experience or apprenticeships or are planning for their future workforce.

Requirements

You are required to complete a 30 question multiple choice quiz at the end of the course. Where you need to achieve at least 80% or above to pass. You can complete the quiz as many times as you need to pass.
