Overview

The Children and Young People’s Residential Management (CYPRM) pathway of the HABC Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care and Children and Young People’s Services (England) (QCF) qualification is recognised by OFSTED as being the equivalent qualification to the HABC Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (England) (QCF) which has now replaced it as the required qualification for residential childcare managers, useful also for owners, and responsible persons (directors).

OFSTED still recognises the Children and Young People’s Residential Management pathway of the HABC Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care and Children and Young People’s Services (England) (QCF), as an equivalent qualification for managers of residential childcare settings, and therefore those who prefer that can still study it. Since this pathway shares 6 mandatory units with the Adults' pathways, it could provide extra flexibility for people who work in both childcare settings and adults' settings

You must live and work in England to do this qualification.

The Children and Young People’s Residential Management pathway enables the learner gain Registered Manager status with the OFSTED.

Description

This qualification is for learners in England only. The Children and Young People’s Residential Management pathway, of the HABC Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care and Children and Young People’s Services (England) (QCF), is suitable for learners who have management responsibility in a children and young people’s residential setting, meaning people who manage or aspire to manage children’s residential care home. This pathway enables the learner gain Registered Manager status with the OFSTED.

The HABC Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care and Children and Young People’s Services (England) (QCF) has been accredited by the regulators of England (Ofqual) and is part of the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF). QAN (Qualification Accreditation Number) is 601/4265/0. It is supported by Skills for Care, the Sector Skills Council for occupations in social care.

This accredited qualification is awarded by Highfield Awarding Body for Compliance (HABC).

This qualification is a nationally recognised qualification and is based on the Health and Social Care National Occupational Standards (NOS). It confirms knowledge, understanding, skills and competence in management and advanced practice within health and social care and children and young people’s services and serves as the required qualification for registration and regulatory requirements in the sector where appropriate in England. This qualification replaces the previous Level 4 NVQ in Leadership and Management for Care Services, the Level 4 NVQ in Health and Social Care. It also replaces the previous 80 credits QCF Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care and Children and Young People.

Usual job roles for those working towards this qualification include:

Managers of residential care services for children and young people aged 0-19years.

And all those aspiring to those job roles or similar roles.

Programme Content – What you will study

Learners studying the Children and Young People’s Residential Management pathway must achieve a minimum of 90 credits to complete the qualification, including 6 mandatory units, 7 core mandatory units, and a range of optional units.

The Awarding Body Rules of Combination for the Children and Young People’s Residential Management pathway are:

All six units in Mandatory Group A totalling 30 credits PLUS a minimum of 60 credits from the remaining groups, including;

44 credits from Mandatory Core Group B1;

A minimum of 12 credits from Group B2;

A minimum of 1 credit and maximum of 6 credits being taken from Group B3;

and the remaining credits to be taken from Groups B2 or B4.

10 - Lead and manage group living for children (6)

11 - Lead and manage a team within a health and social care or children and young people’s setting (7)

12 - Develop professional supervision practice in health and social care or children and young people’s work settings (5)

13 - Lead practice in promoting the well-being and resilience of children and young people (8)

Group B2 Optional Management Group – a minimum of 12 credits must be achieved from this group.

Training and Assessment:

Learners receive training through blended learning that includes distance learning resources via our learning network, tutorials, face-to-face support visits, email support, and telephone support as required.

Assessments involve a variety of assessment methods including: written and oral questioning, work-product evidence, observation at work, personal statements, reflective accounts, professional discussion, witness testimony, and more. Your assessor will assist you in producing a portfolio of evidence that provides evidence of your knowledge & understanding, and skills & performance.

How long does it take – Duration of the course

Flexible. You can complete as fast as you want. Many learners can complete the course within 10 to 12 months. If you complete 2 units a month, you will be able to complete 20 units in 10 months. But, if you complete one unit a month, you will be able to complete 20 units in 20 months. If you need more time, then we can extend the duration at no extra cost.

What certificates do you get when you complete your course?

On completing this qualification, the learner will receive the full Diploma issued by Highfield Awarding Body for Compliance (HABC). If a learner does not complete the minimum number of credits required by Awarding Body for the full qualification in order to award Full Certification by Awarding Body, then the learner will be issued Certificate of Achievement by Vocational Skills Centre for any completed units.

Managers or Assistant managers of other care settings who intend to move to managing residential care services for children and young people aged 0-19years.

Learners who are not in the roles listed above can still start the course, and look for part-time or full-time opportunities to perform the tasks in a real work role, including voluntary roles.

Requirements

You must live and work in England.

Learners must be able to use the internet, send and receive emails, scan and upload submissions to the e-Portfolio.

Learners must be employed in a suitable role within the children and young people’s sector or the health and social care. Those not in a management/supervisory role must find a part-time or voluntary role during the course, in order to evidence their skills and competence.

Learners must have a minimum of Level 2 in English literacy and numeracy (or equivalent).

Learners must demonstrate prior achievement of qualifications at a minimum of level 3 in a related area.

Career path

Completing this qualification makes you fully qualified to manage a residential care facility (care home) for children and young people aged 0-19 years. It makes you eligible for Registered Manager status with OFSTED, including owning a care business.

Earnings range from £32,000 up to £55,000 pa.

Managers can further progress to Regional/Operations Manager, to manage a group of care settings.
