What are Functional Skills?
Functional Skills qualifications are vital to building foundations for progression into specialist skillsets. These subjects are also vital to the entry/exit requirements for vocational study, apprenticeships, and other training opportunities.
As an alternative to the GCSE route, Functional Skills offers a vocational pathway into English and maths, with the flexibility to sit their assessments all year round.

Description
Functional Skills Maths helps you gain daily confidence in whole numbers, fractions, decimals and percentages, using common measures, shape and space, handling information and data, solving mathematical problems and decision making.
- Indicate that students can demonstrate their ability in mathematical skills and their ability to apply these, through appropriate reasoning and decision making, to solve realistic problems of increasing complexity
- Introduce students to new areas of life and work so that they are exposed to concepts and problems which, while not of immediate concern, may be of value in later life
- Enable students to develop an appreciation of the role played by mathematics in the world of work and in life, generally
Who is this course for?
You can start a Functional Skills course if you’re 19 or over and live in a non-devolved region.

Eligibility Criteria
- You must be aged 19 or over.
- You need to have been living in the UK for the past three years and hold the right to live and work in the UK.
- You must commit 10 hours weekly to your studies.

Requirements
Before beginning, you must complete assessments in English, Maths, ICT, and diagnostic evaluations to confirm the qualification's suitability.
