Our forced marriage and honour-based violence course is suitable for professionals working in education, health care and social care. It is also suitable for airport and immigration staff, as well as those who work in a specific safeguarding role.
This course offers an in-depth view into both forced marriage and honour-based violence and on completion of the course you will feel more confident in all the relevant legislation, how to recgonise that someone is at risk and where to report concerns. You will also learn tips on how to look after your mental health while supporting people who have been subject to violence.
In order to complete the course, you must achieve 80% or more in the final multiple choice quiz.

Units covered
- Unit 1 – Introduction to forced marriage and honour-based violence – In our first unit you will be introduced what forced marriage and honour-based violence is, you will then look at statistics relating to each. The unit will finish by exploring a real life case study relating to honour-based violence.
- Unit 2 – Violence, abuse and its effects – Next you will explore some of the forms of honour-based violence in more detail, you will then consider what the signs and behaviours are that may indicate that abuse is taking place. The unit will then move onto looking at how forced marriage and honour-based violence are linked. The unit will finish by providing an insight into real life quotes from survivors.
- Unit 3 -How to recognise that someone is at risk – Here you will be introduced to some ideas about why individuals may be forced into marriage. You will then look at the indicators that someone is at risk of forced marriage or is already in one. The unit will then end by covering some of the legislation relating to forced marriage.
- Unit 4 – Multi Agency Roles – In this unit you will explore what multi-agency working is and what it helps enable to happen. You will the look at each agency that could be involved and what their role is.
- Unit 5 – The effects that forced marriage and honour-based violence can have on victims – In this unit you will consider the impact of forced marriage and honour-based violence. You will be introduced to what is meant by the ‘one chance’ rule and how you can apply it.
- Unit 6 – Support for Staff – In our final unit you will consider the impacts that working with people who have been subject to violence can have on professionals. You will then look at what professional burnout is. The unit will finish by looking at positive self-coping strategies that you can use.
