Hi. How does this course differ from the other FHP courses that cost over a £1000+, besides it not having the practical element to it?

Medical terms are used throughout to ensure that the training will help to produce a well informed practitioner. Therefore the answer to your question is that not having seen other courses we can’t really comment on other much more expensive ones which hopefully include a practical element for the price.

Rachy asked:

Upon passing this, could I list myself on the Accredited Register for Private Sector Practitioners, approved by the Professional Standards Authority?

Answer:

Foot Health Practitioners are not required by law to be registered with any regulatory body, the Health Professions Council - the main goverment regulatory body for health professionals requires that Chiropodists and Podiatrists be registered, qualification for both of these professions requires a 3 year degree level course. An FHP is not a Chirpodist and cannot call themselves by this title. An FHP carries out all the basic maintenance and minor treatments and refers onwards where needed.

Jenny asked:

If this course has no practical content how do students learn to treat corns without a scalpel? How much can practitioners earn per treatment?

Answer:

Thank you for your questdion. Corns are treated/enucleated by using a drill with the appropriate burr for the type of treatment. We do not teach use of scalpel as this is a non surgical course as it would be dangerous to do so without practical work. Charges for treatments vary depending on where in the country you are but an average for private treatment would be £25 - £30 per patient. If you were treating several in one session in a care home for example this fee would obviously reduce.

This was helpful. Thank you for your feedback.

Hi there , Do you have any testimonials from people who have taken this course and are practicing FH in their careers please ? Thank you

We do feed great feedback from our students about the course and our help during the setting process of their businesses - and this should be on our website so thank you for pointing this out, we will rectify this as within the next 7 days. Sometimes it takes a little time for students to set everything up that they need, we help with suggestions about insurance companies and marketing (there is a business module within the course) .

This was helpful. Thank you for your feedback.
Lee asked:

Hi can you recommend someone or some where i can get practical training from if i buy this foot health practitioner course? Thanks

Answer:

We aim to provide affordable comprehensive training - but at present cannot offer any in house practical training.

On completion of this course is the certificate a regulated qualification ? If so who is the governing body?

On completion students receive a Certificate of Achievement - FHP's are not a regulated profession so you do not need to be part of any membership organisation or governing body. If the practical training is optional/not available at present how can people set up a footcare business from a purely distance learning course ?

Answer:

The theory course is extensive and every student must complete the 14 assessments and show a high standard of proficiency. This is not a surgical course and use of scalpel is not covered for obvious reasons. The Practical Course is available unless there is a complete lockdown. It is perfectly viable to start a business providing general foot care providing the practitioner has a good knowledge of anatomy and physiology, use of instruments, sterilisation techniques and other safety measures.

This was helpful. Thank you for your feedback.

What qualifications do the tutors on this course have?

Answer:

Hi Jane, the Tutor of this course has been a qualified working Foot Health Practitioner for almost 20 years originally studied at a highly recognised/reputable college in Berkshire which provided Chiropody level training to FHPs. This was helpful. Thank you for your feedback.
Jane asked:

How can students provide practical foot care when there is no compulsory practical element?

Answer:

This is a non surgical course and is extremely detailed. Each student must reach the requred standard of knowledge on each module before moving on to the next one. The course is very thorough and the tutor will ensure that the student has demonstrated their awareness of their duty of care and responsibilities. and of techniques used. We do not teach scalpel work on this theory course for obvious reasons of safety, ths is covered by the practical.

This was helpful. Thank you for your feedback.

This course does qualify you to work as an independent FHP and we also have an optional'additional 5 day practical course available after completion of this FHP Foundation Course if required. Hopefully this answers your question, if not please come back to me. - Patricia - TSA Ltd

This was helpful. Thank you for your feedback.
Claire asked:

How is the final assessment undertaken?

Answer:

There are 12 assessments, one at the end of each module, and the final assessment is also a question and answer one which is marked by your tutor. Students are supported and advised where necessary all the way through the course to ensure that they reach the standards required, up to and including the final assessment. This was helpful. Thank you for your feedback.
Ellena edge asked:

Can you treat ingrown toe nails with this course

Answer:

This is a non surgical course so you can help a patient to avoid pain, offer advice about ongoing care and you can provide basic treatment such as removing nail spurs and reducing the outer nail edge but it depends on the condition presented, if infection is present then the patient must be referred onwards for treatment. FHP's cannot offer nail excision on this course.

Terry-anne asked:

Would this enable me to do work with Age UK?

Answer:

The Age UK Foot Care Service varies greatly from area to area and some branches do provide basic training for nail care for elderly clients. The TSA course covers far more than would be required by normal Age UK foot care - having spoken to them today to get information on your behalf and would certainly provide a much better basis from which to carry out any work in the private sector. I would suggest that you check with your local Age UK branch to confirm this as not all areas offer this.

This was helpful. Thank you for your feedback.

FAQs

Study method describes the format in which the course will be delivered. At Reed Courses, courses are delivered in a number of ways, including online courses, where the course content can be accessed online remotely, and classroom courses, where courses are delivered in person at a classroom venue.

CPD stands for Continuing Professional Development. If you work in certain professions or for certain companies, your employer may require you to complete a number of CPD hours or points, per year. You can find a range of CPD courses on Reed Courses, many of which can be completed online.

A regulated qualification is delivered by a learning institution which is regulated by a government body. In England, the government body which regulates courses is Ofqual. Ofqual regulated qualifications sit on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF), which can help students understand how different qualifications in different fields compare to each other. The framework also helps students to understand what qualifications they need to progress towards a higher learning goal, such as a university degree or equivalent higher education award.

An endorsed course is a skills based course which has been checked over and approved by an independent awarding body. Endorsed courses are not regulated so do not result in a qualification - however, the student can usually purchase a certificate showing the awarding body's logo if they wish. Certain awarding bodies - such as Quality Licence Scheme and TQUK - have developed endorsement schemes as a way to help students select the best skills based courses for them.
