This First Aid Basics for Everyday Situations course consists of seven structured lectures, followed by an assessment, each designed to develop clear awareness of first aid concepts and appropriate responses.
The course begins with first aid basics, introducing the purpose of first aid, personal safety, and the importance of assessing situations calmly. Medical problems explore common health-related emergencies from an awareness perspective, such as recognising signs that may require urgent attention.
Traumatic injuries examine general injury types and safe response awareness, while environmental injuries and illnesses explore risks related to heat, cold, and environmental exposure.
Adult CPR, AED, and choking are introduced at an awareness level only, focusing on understanding what these interventions are and when emergency services should be contacted. Child CPR, AED, and choking and infant CPR and choking continue this awareness-based approach, emphasising recognition and appropriate escalation rather than practical instruction.
The course concludes with an assessment to consolidate understanding of first aid awareness and responsible response in everyday situations.
