Overview

The First Aid Basics for Everyday Situations course is designed to provide learners with foundational awareness of first aid principles and how individuals can respond appropriately in everyday emergency situations. This course focuses on general knowledge, safety awareness, and understanding appropriate responses rather than professional medical training or certification.

Learners explore common medical and injury-related situations that may occur at home, in public spaces, or in workplace environments. The course introduces the purpose of first aid, personal safety considerations, and the importance of seeking appropriate professional help when required.

Key topics include medical problems, traumatic injuries, environmental injuries and illnesses, and basic life support awareness for adults, children, and infants. The course presents this information from an educational and awareness-based perspective to support confidence and preparedness in non-clinical settings.

Rather than preparing learners to act as qualified first aiders or provide medical treatment, this First Aid course builds general understanding, situational awareness, and responsible decision-making in everyday scenarios.

Description

This First Aid Basics for Everyday Situations course consists of seven structured lectures, followed by an assessment, each designed to develop clear awareness of first aid concepts and appropriate responses.

The course begins with first aid basics, introducing the purpose of first aid, personal safety, and the importance of assessing situations calmly. Medical problems explore common health-related emergencies from an awareness perspective, such as recognising signs that may require urgent attention.

Traumatic injuries examine general injury types and safe response awareness, while environmental injuries and illnesses explore risks related to heat, cold, and environmental exposure.

Adult CPR, AED, and choking are introduced at an awareness level only, focusing on understanding what these interventions are and when emergency services should be contacted. Child CPR, AED, and choking and infant CPR and choking continue this awareness-based approach, emphasising recognition and appropriate escalation rather than practical instruction.

The course concludes with an assessment to consolidate understanding of first aid awareness and responsible response in everyday situations.

After successful completion of the First Aid Basics for Everyday Situations course, learners receive a free digital certificate from Reed confirming course completion.
