Overview

In our Fire Safety In Schools course you will learn of the importance of fire safety and that it is a set of practices which, when they work together, are designed to reduce the destruction that is caused by fire and to prevent fires from starting, you will also acknowledge that fire safety laws apply to any place (with the exception of most domestic premises) and require ‘duty holders’ to ensure the safety of the people who use the place in respect of harm that may be caused by fire.

Description

Our Fire Safety In Schools course is suitable for anyone working in schools.

Throughout this course, you will be introduced to the importance of fire safety in schools and who has the legal responsibility for fire safety within a school setting.

You will also gain a greater knowledge of the legislation, policy and procedures around fire safety in schools and will know what action to take if a fire was to take place.

It is imperative that a setting has a Responsible Person as they are in charge of ensuring the safety of everyone in the setting including those who visit it.

You will acknowledge the difference between A Responsible Person and a fire warden.

The different types of fire extinguisher used will depend on the class of fire that is burning, you will learn the six different classes of fires as well as the five different types of fire extinguishers.

At the end of this Fire Safety In Schools course you will learn of the importance of fire drills and that it is the law which schools are required to adhere to.

You will learn that the law is in place to ensure safety, as people will not know what to do in case of an emergency if they have not had the opportunity to practice.

In order to complete the course, you must achieve 80% or more in the final multiple choice quiz.

You will earn 3 CPD points on completion of the course, this course will take around 3 hours to complete and the certificate will last for two years.

Units covered.

  • Unit 1 - Introduction to fire safety - This first unit of our Fire Safety In Schools course will explain the importance of fire safety and look into the law surrounding it. The unit will consider the concept of fire safety as a whole before examining its importance in various settings. The unit ends with an overview of various aspects of legislation that are related to fire safety and to whom these will apply.
  • Unit 2 - Carrying out safety measures - Unit two will explore health and safety signs and various measures which can be taken to increase fire safety. It will also look at the Responsible Persons in a school for fire safety and their duties. The unit continues with an examination of the importance of having appropriate fire extinguishers and what the duty of staff is when it comes to fire safety.
  • Unit 3 - Fire hazards - This unit will explain the potential fire hazards that can arise in a school – covering ignition sources, flammables and combustibles. It will also discuss certain working practices that need to be implemented to avoid creating fire hazards.
  • Unit 4 - Emergency procedures and responsibilities - This final unit of our Fire Safety In Schools course explains the actions which should be taken in the event of a fire starting. It will give knowledge in raising the alarm and evacuating the school as well as noting how a fire drill should take place and how often, all of which are key elements in making sure that everyone within the setting remains safe.
