Overview
The Paediatric First Aid Course is a legal requirement in the UK. This qualification meets the requirements for first aid training, as detailed in the Department for Education’s Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), as well as those for Childcare Registration and Ofsted.

Our course syllabus includes:
- Roles and responsibilities of a Paediatric First Aider
- Preparing for first aid emergencies and creating a safe environment for the child
- Resuscitation
- Artificial ventilation and CPR for babies and children
- Placing the baby or child in the recovery position
- Assessment of a child casualty
Through our Paediatric First Aid Course, learners will also learn how to recognise and deal with:
- Bites and stings
- The effects of extreme heat and cold
- Choking
- Eye injuries
- Foreign objects in the eyes, ears and noses
- Shock
- Electric Shock
- Anaphylactic Shock
- Possible poisoning
- Bleeding
- Burns and scalds
- Febrile convulsions
- Head, neck and back injuries
- Fractures
- Meningitis and other serious sudden illnesses
- The emergency needs of chronic medical conditions including asthma, epilepsy, diabetes and sickle cell
The Paediatric First Aid Course also covers basic adult first aid skills, including details on creating accident reports and administering medication, which are especially useful for those who work in childcare settings.
Who is this course for?
Know-How & Consultancy Training Ltd provides an extensive training for individuals who care for children and babies. This two-day course provides the skills and knowledge necessary when dealing with various paediatric conditions and incidents.
Requirements
This qualification is available to learners 14 years of age or older. However, they may be unable to act as a Paediatric First Aider in a workplace before they reach the age of 16.
Candidates are recommended to have literacy of Level 1, or its equivalent. A candidate’s skill and ability to respond to the physical demands of a real-life situation will also be gauged.
A reasonable adjustment for candidates who have a disability, a medical condition, or learning need may be possible. Interested candidates may contact us to discuss the details.
Career path
Learners who achieve this qualification may progress on to the FAA First Aid at Work or other related qualifications within first aid. Know-how training Ltd also offer qualifications in health & safety, food safety and safeguarding should learners wish to diversify.
