Description

On completion of the course, students will gain the knowledge and skills to understand the role and responsibilities of an exam invigilator.

We will cover the importance of fair and secure testing, ethical conduct and integrity in invigilation. Students will cover setting up the examination environment, the equipment and materials checklist required and accessibility arrangements for special needs candidates. We will also cover security measures and confidentiality as well as familiarization with examination regulations.

Students will learn about starting and monitoring the exam session, providing assistance to candidates within guidelines and handling disruptions and misconduct. We will cover effective communication, collecting and securing exam papers and completing invigilators reports.

Students will also learn about navigating ethical challenges in invigilation and decision making in exam related scenarios. These will be supported with a selection of case studies of some common examples of centre and candidate malpractice and maladministration cases that JCQ awarding bodies have encountered.

In order to complete the course, you must achieve 80% or more in the final multiple choice quiz.

You will earn 3 CPD points on completion of the course, this course will take around 3 hours to complete and the certificate will last for two years.

Units covered

  • Unit 1 - The Role and Responsibilities of an Exam Invigilator - In the first unit we will cover the roles and responsibilities of an invigilator and the importance of fair and secure testing. Students will also cover ethical conduct and integrity in invigilation.
  • Unit 2 - Preparing For Examination Sessions - In this unit you will learn about setting up the examination environment, the equipment and materials checklist. We will also cover security measures and confidentiality and accessibility arrangements for special needs candidates.
  • Unit 3 - During the Examination and Post-Examination Procedures - In the third unit you will cover starting and monitoring the exam session, handling disruptions and misconduct. We will cover providing assistance to candidates within guidelines, collecting and securing exam papers as well as completing invigilator reports. You will also cover effective communication with exam officers.
  • Unit 4 - Ethical Dilemmas and Decision-Making - In the final unit you will explore navigating ethical challenges in invigilation and the conflicts of interest and bias avoidance. We will cover decision making in exam related scenarios and look at case studies and ethical problem solving.
