In this diabetes awareness course, you will learn what diabetes is and what types of diabetes there are. Causes for the different types of diabetes will be discussed and the signs and symptoms of each will be explored.
To further explore the impacts of diabetes case studies will be used, one to discuss the short-term implications of diabetes and one to highlight the longer impacts of diabetes. This course will also cover the signs of high and low blood sugar and when an individual may need emergency medical treatment.
You will also look at the treatment options for those with diabetes and what these treatments aim to do. It will also discuss the ways diabetes may be monitored and managed, the course will also look at the relationship between diet and exercise and diabetic outcomes.
Finally, you will explore the management of diabetes and how those with the condition can access support. This will include the support an individual may access from family, friends and their workplace. Cases of childhood diabetes and how to support children with diabetes will be touched upon. The course will also explore the relationship between diabetes and lifestyle and wellbeing in several situations including pregnancy and illness.
In order to complete the course, you must achieve 80% or more in the final multiple choice quiz.

- Unit 2 – Short-term and Long-term Complications of Diabetes – In this unit you will explore the complications of diabetes and how they can affect an individual, you will also explore case studies on the implications of both long- and short-term complications for the individual.
- Unit 3 –Different Types of Treatment – You will look at the diagnosis and treatment of diabetes and how diagnosis is different in different diabetes types, you will also explore the aims of treatment and medication.
- Unit 4 – Managing Diabetes – In the final unit of our diabetes awareness course, you will explore the wider implications of diabetes and how individuals can be supported and managed through these issues. Including how diabetes can affect everyday life, such as driving, sexual relationships and emotional health.
