Description
On completion of the course, students will gain an understanding of COSHH in clinical environments and the hazardous substances found in these settings. You will examine the COSHH regulations and other relevant laws and consider some of the responsibilities various duty holders have regarding COSHH.
We will cover the hazards and risks associated with hazardous substances in clinical environments. You will look at routes of entry, how hazardous substances can cause ill health and their effects. You will look at examples of the types of hazardous substances in clinical settings.
You will look at how to assess risk and how to identify hazardous substances in clinical environments. You will also learn how to decide on appropriate control measures to reduce the risks.
We will explore the hierarchy of hazard controls and look at some examples specific to clinical settings. You will also look at monitoring, health surveillance, training and maintenance. You will also consider emergencies relating to hazardous substances and what employers must do to protect employees in clinical settings
In order to complete the course, you must achieve 80% or more in the final multiple choice quiz.
You will earn 3 CPD points on completion of the course, this course will take around 3 hours to complete and the certificate will last for two years.
Units covered
- Unit 1 – Introduction to COSHH in Clinical Environments - In the first unit we will cover what COSHH in clinical environments mean and why it is important. You will learn about some of the hazardous substances found in these settings. We will also will learn about COSHH regulations and other relevant laws.
- Unit 2 - Introduction – In this unit you have an introduction to the hazards and risks associated with hazardous substances in clinical environments. We will cover routes of entry, how hazardous substances cause ill health and some examples of their effects. We will also look at some examples of hazardous substances in clinical settings.
- Unit 3 - Introduction – In the third unit we look at assessing the risks of hazardous substances in clinical environments. You will learn how to identify hazardous substances and explore COSHH assessments and how to decide on appropriate measure to control risks.
- Unit 4 - Preventing, Reducing and Controlling Risks – In the final unit you will learn about preventing, reducing and controlling risks of hazardous substances in clinical environments. You will explore the hierarchy of hazard controls and look at examples in the clinical setting. We will also cover monitoring, health surveillance, training and maintenance.

Requirements
You are required to complete a 30 question multiple choice quiz at the end of the course. Where you need to achieve at least 80% or above to pass. You can complete the quiz as many times as you need to pass.
