The course is divided into following five modules:

MODULE 5 – HEALTH AND SAFETY, AND PREPARING THE WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Description

MODULE 1 – BASICS OF CARPENTRY

This module cover the topics of types of foundations, timber conversions and identifying their defects. It also explains about the various types of communication and signals to be used.

MODULE 2 – HAND TOOLS

This module lists down the types of hand tools to be used in carpentry and gives detailed explanation of the measuring tools, sharpening the hand tools and touches upon the hazards involved in handling the hand tools.

MODULE 3 – PORTABLE ELECTRIC POWER TOOLS

This module explains about the various power tools which can be used and the power sources needed for using electric power tools.

MODULE 4 – GLUING AND FIXING

This module gives an idea of the various fixing items and the screws required. It also touches upon the different types of holding tools required in carpentry.

MODULE 5 – HEALTH AND SAFETY, AND PREPARING THE WORKING ENVIRONMENT

This module explains about the health and safety aspect while handling materials and equipment. Safety is an important factor while using various tools of carpentry. The procedure to be followed in case of emergencies and accidents, safety signs to be followed, PPE and the legislation involved are also covered in this module.

This course is openly available to anyone wishing to learn more about Carpentry and Joinery and would like to take part in a highly rewarding home study course. We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to expand their knowledge and study further, so we try to keep our entry requirements to a minimum.

You have the freedom to start the course at any time and continue your studies at your own pace for a period of up to 12 months from initial registration.

Possible Career Path as a Carpenter.Carpenters and joiners make and install wooden fixtures and fittings. They can work in many areas, for instance on construction sites, fitting out shops and bars, and building sets for film and TV.You’ll need an eye for detail, good maths skills for working out measurements and the ability to follow technical plans.
