Block Format: Five consecutive days—ideal for intensive learning

Day-Release: One day weekly for five weeks—perfect for busy managers who can't leave sites for extended periods

Virtual Classroom: Live online delivery via Zoom with full instructor interaction

All formats feature highly interactive teaching including classroom discussions, practical exercises, video content, and real-world examples that you can apply immediately.

Certificate validity: Five years from completion

Renewal: Complete the 2-day SMSTS Refresher before expiry. Expired certificates require the full five-day course again.

Industry recognition: Accepted by Build UK and the UK Contractors Group (UKCG) as meeting the standard for all construction site managers.

CITB Grant: Eligible employers can claim grants for directly employed PAYE staff and subcontractors.

Digital certification: Issued within 28 working days via email and recorded on the Construction Training Register.

Throughout the Course:

Final Examination:

• 35-minute open-book test with 25 questions
• Pass mark: 81% (26/32 marks)

Entry requirements: While no formal qualifications are needed, delegates should hold or be moving into a management position. Previous safety knowledge is beneficial—those new to the field may wish to complete the SSSTS course first.

• CITB publication GE700 (Construction site safety - The comprehensive guide) for course and exam—purchase through us or bring your own
• National Insurance number (for CITB grant claims)
• Ability to read, write, and understand English at management level

Renewal Requirements: Delegates must complete the 2-day SMSTS Refresher course before their certificate expires. If the certificate expires, the full 5-day SMSTS course must be retaken.
