Overview

Our CIPD Level 5 Intermediate Diploma in Learning and Development blends a distance learning approach (approximately 80% online learning) with our renowned support from a fully qualified dedicated personal adviser. All our advisers hold CIPD Chartered Membership or above and have a wealth of practical L&D experience. There is also extensive remote support available through our Virtual Learning Environment (VLE).

This CIPD qualification provides a bridge between the Foundation and Advanced level CIPD qualifications: giving you the opportunity to consolidate your existing knowledge and skills and to stretch your learning to advance your L&D career ambitions. Upon successful completion of the programme you will gain CIPD Associate Membership.

This programme will enhance your understanding of how the L&D function contributes to the achievement of organisational goals and the competencies required of an effective L&D professional.

Our syllabus and approach offers an ideal balance of self-directed study through bespoke learning materials designed specifically for the Intermediate level programme and by the tailored support and guidance from your personal adviser. We have achieved outstanding success in our student completion rates and the feedback received from both students and CIPD quality assurance. We provide the widest choice of optional units from any CIPD centre and will offer one-to-one advice to help you make the right choice of units which play to your strengths and identify your key development areas.

We have the strongest track record in using competency based assessment where you can maximise your work experience to further promote your learning and development.

Description

The core units will develop your understanding of yourself as a L&D practitioner, the environment (within and outside of the organisation) that the L&D department works within and the ability to carry out a small business case report on a L&D topic that is of particular interest to you.

For the areas of L&D specialisms you will further your understanding of L&D practice by evaluating the role of digital and blended learning practices and how these are utilised in contemporary organisations. You can also further your knowledge on social learning and how to create collaborative working practices within your own organisation. In addition on the Diploma you can also choose to cover the role that leadership and management development programmes have in the L&D agenda, return on investment and expectation, managing the L&D function and talent development.

Throughout the programme you will utilise your analytical skills to evaluate research findings and draw informed conclusions to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of the various areas of L&D specialisms.

What is included:

  • Course materials and workbooks written by our team of highly qualified industry experts
  • One-to-one support planning sessions with your personal adviser to help you translate and fully understand the unit content
  • 24/7 access to our world class Virtual Learning Environment (VLE)
  • Developmental feedback from your personal adviser for each unit prior to the final assessment
  • Assessment feedback from your personal adviser for each unit
  • L&D career coaching and support
  • Fully flexible start dates chosen by you
  • Flexible choice from ALL optional units
  • Fast track option for you to complete in a shorter timeframe

How is This Course Delivered?

We specialise in flexible learning solutions that are tailored to your needs. You can begin the programme at any time and complete it in a timescale which meets your career aspirations and work-life balance needs - anything from 9 to 15 months. You will be able to pace your learning according to your own needs rather than those of a large group of learners or pre-set timetable.

The combination of elements includes workbooks with reflective activities to embed your learning, supplementary learning materials and assignments. You will also have regular contact with your personal adviser, who is allocated to you at the start of your programme, through telephone conversations, e-mail exchanges and/or Skype meetings.

How will it be assessed?

Your personal adviser will provide you with developmental feedback for each unit assessment. This feedback will guide you in terms of your progress with the unit content and advise you on your achievements and what, if any, areas could benefit from further development.

There are no exams for this qualification - each unit is assessed by the completion of a written assessment (typically set at 3,000 words). We offer two options for assessment which include the general CIPD assignment (most suitable for students with limited people management experience) or our unique template approach which is CIPD approved (most suitable for students who have some L&D experience) where work based evidence is used to support your competency in the subject area.

How we differ from other centres

Our success rate and quality standards are second to none. We consistently outperform the national average exam pass rates (for Advanced qualifications) and achieve outstanding quality assurance ratings from the CIPD. This is because we have developed a unique and rigorous process which begins with a diagnostic consultation as the starting point to any learning engagement. We strive to ensure students are mapped to the correct qualification and then work with them every step of the way to help them achieve success. We are the only CIPD Centre to offer all of the optional units, providing maximum flexibility and choice and you can complete the units in any order. You will be supported throughout the programme by a dedicated personal adviser, regardless of which study option you choose.

FAQs

Study method describes the format in which the course will be delivered. At Reed Courses, courses are delivered in a number of ways, including online courses, where the course content can be accessed online remotely, and classroom courses, where courses are delivered in person at a classroom venue.

CPD stands for Continuing Professional Development. If you work in certain professions or for certain companies, your employer may require you to complete a number of CPD hours or points, per year. You can find a range of CPD courses on Reed Courses, many of which can be completed online.

A regulated qualification is delivered by a learning institution which is regulated by a government body. In England, the government body which regulates courses is Ofqual. Ofqual regulated qualifications sit on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF), which can help students understand how different qualifications in different fields compare to each other. The framework also helps students to understand what qualifications they need to progress towards a higher learning goal, such as a university degree or equivalent higher education award.

An endorsed course is a skills based course which has been checked over and approved by an independent awarding body. Endorsed courses are not regulated so do not result in a qualification - however, the student can usually purchase a certificate showing the awarding body's logo if they wish. Certain awarding bodies - such as Quality Licence Scheme and TQUK - have developed endorsement schemes as a way to help students select the best skills based courses for them.
